Are all 442 handles threaded for a pocket clip?

I recently got a new old stock 442. It's dated to 1998, came with a 444 and a nylon double sheath that holds both.

The handle of the 442 has the screw hole & alignment hole for the pocket clip, but there is no metal threaded insert in the handle to thread the screw into. I'm wondering if these ones weren't intended to have the clip, because of the sheath, or am I missing the inserts?

The inserts aren't available through Buck. Has anyone ever replaced them, or know where to get them? I have a correct pocket clip and screw.

I'm looking at a 442 with a clip with the same date symbol as yours and the screw hole has a threaded insert so it looks like you're missing them.

My 444/442 combo set, also from 1998, is missing the clip and mounting insert too. I'm guessing that since the set had a sheath, Buck omitted the clip feature for the combo. I have several other 442's from different years, all with clips.

Thanks plb. I had a feeling that was the situation, and I figured it would take someone else with the combo set to verify it.

Maybe, but I would have thought they would go though assembly without concern of packaging as a set, but maybe I guess it would save a few pennies not doing it.

I have 3 individual ones from various years and ea has the insert on both sides.

Was out looking around and saw for different sets listed and none of them had the insert.
