Are all Barrages assisted opening?

I was at a Scheels yesterday looking around and thought I would take a look at some of their Benchmades. They didn't have what I was looking for but the guy suggested I take a look at the Barrage. I've never really took a close look at on until yesterday. While I wasn't crazy bout how the handle looked it seemed to be a pretty nice knife.

The one thing I didn't realize was that the Barrage is assisted opening. Are they all like this or just certain ones? I'm not real big on a/o but just more or less curious.

I've had quite a few barrages come and go, and as far as I know they are all assisted. But I also know they can be de assisted, which would render them the same as any other benchmade axis. Hope this helps!

Yup!! All are assisted. I have a 581 and a 586......most EXCELLENT Knives!

I own a 583-1 that delivers with a definitive SNAP! All of the Barrages, well, and their first cousin, the Volli, are great knives. Yes, both of these are assisted.

I have two that I have yet to de-assist but I definitely will at some point. I wish they would offer non-assisted as an option at least from the custom shop.

I for one cannot understand for the life of me the appeal of having an assist on an AXIS lock. The AXIS is by far my favorite locking mechanism of all time, and I can flick it open just as quickly and easily with the lock as it can open with an assist. However with the assist I can no longer swing it closed with one hand. Why would I want that? To me, putting assisted opening on AXIS lock knives is like raisins in oatmeal cookies...Who wants them there?

I have the standard mini Barrage with the plastic handles and the full-size 581 version with G10 scales, aluminum bolsters, and an M390 blade. I left my mini assisted as it was a gift from my wife and prefer to keep it the way she gave it to me. I de-assisted the 581 and much prefer it that way. Either way it's a helluva knife for 200 hundred bucks and can be had much less expensively here on the Exchange.

I know my buddy Joe P likes his two assisted as he's way into autos as well. His mini and large pair are gorgeously outfitted in custom, complementary Sketchen scales. It will only take this slightest mention and I'm sure pics will miraculously appear.

Excuse me???? Since you insist Steve!!!are you speaking of these ole things???

Agreed with Ky. Great look! I have the mini barrage in grey G10 and it became my favorite EDC overnight, dethroning some faithful old favorites. I, for one, love the assisted on the mini for the sheer joy of the feel of it opening. It has the most satisfying a/o feel I've ever experienced. Which matches the knife itself. Obvious quality the second you pick it up. My collection is meager at about 50 folders, but if I could keep only one, my mini barrage would be it.
