Guess the short answer would be yes, although I've found a wide variance in the ones I've owned, and that number would be upwards of all your fingers. The reason i ask this is really out of curiousty, I know.....curiosity killed the cat, but since I've got 9 lives I figure I can spend one here!

The Cuda MAXX I currently have is a combo edge but is one I've kept through the past year because of it super lockup out of the box, a centered blade out of the box, and a tight action, again, out of the box. The only thing I've done is to add bronze washers, and polish the screws, pivot, and standoffs.

Back to being created equally. The ones I've had have ranged from being centered, having great lockup ( defined by me as about 1/3rd of the blade tang being covered...leaving plenty of room for any wear), and having good actions, to ones where the blade was not centered, even had one I could not center the blade no matter what I tried, and the locking bar came all the way over on the blade tang.

The one thing I can say about being created equal is that all the ones I've had have had super actions to them.

I really like framelocks and the best production framelock I'd seen was the one on the MAXX and Aftermaths........that is until the BM 630 came out and I have to say that I believe that BM has gotten it right as I've not read one thing about poor lockup. Now the Cuda MAXX I currently have is the equal to the BM as far as lockup goes, and as far as the blade centering goes. In fact the MAXX has the best blue anodizing I've seen and this includes the BM 630. Some of the MAXX's have had varying colors of blue through the years.
I have a R. Hinderer 165 Firetac coming in the next couple of weeks and look forward to comparing the blue of it to the blues of the MAXX and the 630. My other framelock is a torched finish XL Deluge by DB Fraley.

So how 'bout it. Anyone else think along the same line?

And my answer is "no" I don't think they are equal at least in my experiences. Have/had 2 Camillus Madd Maxx's with the 5 1/2" blade, and both developed vertical play, and had to be adjusted by bending the lockbar over. As far as the Aftermath have had "0" problems with it, and has held up well, and I am really impressed with it. I think maybe it might be of the thicker handles which makes it more stout.
I have a custom Darrel Ralph Maxx with the 4" spearpoint blade, and Robo Assist, and it has good except the Robo Assist failed on me yesterday, and I have to send it in to Darrel for repair but as far as lockup it has been excellent.
Also have 2 Camillus Dominator's(I know not a Maxx either) which has proven to be a good framelock.
Also as long as you mention the Benchmade 630 Skirmish, I have one, and has been excellent as far as lockup, etc., and agree think they have really come up with a dandy this time. Reminds me of a mega Sebenza(no offense folks as I have 3 Sebenzas), and this knife really impressed me for the money.
I went kinda out of bounds here to answer your question but in the title you asked about Maxx's but drifted to framelocks in general(I think) when you mentioned the BM 630. There are others out there of course but tried to stay with the ones you mentioned other than the Fraley, and Hinderer of which I have none.........yet :D
This is my .02 cents worth rounded off to a buck.

Yeah I probably did drift a little there. I agree with you Larry about the Aftermath. The titanium is around .150" at the pivot and tapers down to .140" at the lock as compared to .120" for the MAXX. I think the bronze washers will help give the MAXX some stability as I've found that the teflon will compress with time and create some play in the blade. As tight as I tighten the pivot I probably run the risk of tearing the teflon washers.......it's happened before.

I have a Maxx 5.5 stiletto and an Aftermath. The stiletto lock up was great at first but it wore down and now the bar goes all the way over to the inner liner. The Aftermath is stronger and lock up just right, but I did have a little wear on the Aftermath and found that putting just a little strip of Scotch tape where the thumb stud braces on durning lock up did the trick real good and holds on a long time. I played with the BM 630 and agree, it looks and feels like the best lock up I have seen yet, and the price is right.

I've had three Cuda Maxxes. The first two had defective locks. On the first one, the lock bar was all the way over to the opposite scale, and the lock bar did not reach the tang. LOTS of play that couldn't be adjusted out. I sent it to Camillus, and they sent me back another defective one. The second one would not pass a moderate whack test. So much for it being one of the strongest locks on the market. So, I sent it back. The third one has a good lock, but the blade is not centered.

DR's design is outstanding, but Camillus's execution was inconsistent. Two defective knives in a row seems like more than bad luck to me.
