I would like to buy a Vulcan as my first SOG folder. I like the size, and the arc lock. I have been lusting at them on the net and some say the steel is VG-10 while others say it is AUS-8. I am told the SOG knives made in Seki Japan are great, some sellers say made in USA and others in Japan. Were they made in both places? Thanks

Yes, and Yes, The SOG Vulcan's blade is made in Seki, Japan. I am looking at my Vulcan right now and the blade steel is VG-10. It is really great stuff and supposed to be right above the 154CM (ATS-34 for some of you) mark. The blade is very thick for a blade length of this size, so the edge seems to last forever. The blade pivot can be tightened to where the knife has *ZERO* walk and talk (blade play), and with just a quick 1:1 stroke with a diamond sharpener the blade is better than razor sharp all over again. The lock up is great and is tested to over 1000 pounds of pressure. The pocket clip is nice too, it allows the knife to sit low and out of visibility. The finger flip or 'kick,' is a nice feature and with a little practice allows the blade to be ready and drawn by the time you can position your hand around the grip. This is a great knife for the money and I would have expected it to cost over $200 bucks. Hope this helps, J.

Alright! Now all you have to do when you get the knife is try to convince yourself to break it in. It took me about a week before I could get up the courage to break in my Vulcan. For a strong sturdy folder, the Vulcan is one pretty ass knife! It was tough, but I just pulled out my vulcan and stabbed it into a bag of concrete (still in powder form so don't worry :)) and slit it open. The blade was still sharp as ever, it just ended up with two or three little scratches on the blade. Now my Vulcan sees a lot of action and I'm always looking for a reason to pull out 'my precious.' You'll be very pleased with it and make sure to post when you get it in and let us know how it goes, J.

I definitely think SOG has a winner with the Vulcan. Great name for the knife too! I think you'll really like the blade. I do.

After reading all this talk about the Vulcan, the anxious wait for mine has taken atleast 5 years off my life; I swear! Thanks guys! :p
