Are arbors for abrasive bands all the same?

Sorry if I asked this before but I just can't for the life of me remember. :o

Had to work with these again and they just don't work. As much as I tighten the compression screw (which is starting to strip by the way) it works for a while and then the band loosens on the barrel and slips up or down.

This is what I am using.

Just the cheap arbors they include when you buy a bag of bands. I had to install it snug to the hand-piece to keep it from sliding down but it just doesn't give enough space to work with all the drum's surface.

Would better quality arbors be the answer? I imagine so but I thought's I'd ask the jewelers and other experts on here first.

Thanks for your help.

The el cheapo arbors always seem to be mis-sized, too soft and out of round. I chuck em and use the dremel brand arbors. They have the nifty certifugal slid-on-slide-off ones now as well that are worth the extra couple of bucks IMO.

Patrice, I dont think there's any alternative for the smaller size bands but these quick change mandrels for the 1/2" bands are fantastic
Never had a problem with slippage, been using it pretty much every other day for the past 2 or 3 years and only now im just about due for a new one.

You're right about the screws stripping, would be interesting to see if you replaced them with a torx drive screw if you can get better torque

Just a quick update. I bought the Dremel quick change arbor for the 1/2” drums and it sure works good. Too bad they don't make them for the 1/4” drums. :(
