Are Bark River canvas micarta scales textured or polished?

I am looking at scales for a Bark River Necker 2 and I was wondering if their canvas micarta scales are smooth and almost polished like their G10 or if they had more of a fabric feel like the micarta scales on my ESEE-4. Anyone know? Thanks.

I think it just depends on the knife. BR tends to offer lots of variations, so I think you should be able to find it the way you want it.

I've had a couple of Barkies in a linen and a canvas micarta (Woodland Special & a Little River) and they both were more polished than textured. They felt more like their G10. I have that on a Little DPH.

None of these were close to the feeling of ESEE's scales.

Bark River makes Micarta handles both ways.

Most are polished to smooth with a wax based compound.

Others are offered with a rough (matte) finish.

Also, if you scrub a poished canvas Micarta handle with soap and hot water it strip the wax and raise the grain a bit.

I've felt that the grips (Micarta and G10) on my Barkies are too smooth for me so I have roughed-up some of them with either 220 or 320 grip emory paper, just a bit to make it stick to my palm better.

I don't think I've ever seen any production barkies with textured Micarta or G10 before. But you can add some yourself if you feel the need.

Do they looked scratched up? Got any pics? I feel like the G10 grips I have now are too smooth but I'm a little hesitant to start sanding them.

I used some 300 grit on the poliched G-10, which softened the sheen and added grip. They do not look scratched up. I only have one Barkie with micarta, and although polished, it has a better grip than their G-10.

Any Bark River knife can be pre-ordered with a matte G-10 or Micarta scales.

Some of the more popular models are available both ways from the dealers.

Here's an example from the last run of Bravo-1's.

Natural Canvas Micarta

Natural Canvas Micarta - Matte Handles

Same price, different finish.

Also,

...if you send your knife in to Bark River for the Spa treatment.

...it can be converted to a matte finish at no additional charge.

I'm very interested in this discussion as well. Would like to add another dimension - do the G10 and Micarta differ when wet? Are both equal in terms of grip when wet?

Which of the BRKT Micarta scales have the best grip? Linen Micarta because of the pattern?

Yes, but no textured grips right?

G-10 is available in peel Ply, but only in sheet form.

You cannot contour the handles while keeping the Peel Ply finish, as you cannot have a car without wheels.
