Curious because I saw one in a catalogue but when searching the Busse website I couldn't find it.

Thanks in advance

Daniel,
Welcome to the Busse Forum. Glad you stopped by.
The Basic Series(including the Basic 9) has been discontinued. There are however some still out there at the dealers. You may want to check around or put a wanted to buy in the "wanted to buy" forum here at BF.

Good luck in finding what you want.

Welcome Daniel,
I just got a Basic 9 from another forumite, and have been using it this past week...I'm in love:o I've never been a huge fan of longer blades, and liked the Basic 3, 5, and Natural Outlaw. I like the Basic 9 even more, and it's really turned me on to the longer blades. Hopefully before long, I'll get another 9 and/or a straight handle SH or BM...
He has another one for sale (also up for trade here on BFC, I believe):

Great knife. Great performance. Great price. Great seller.
Hard to beat that combination:D

If you get a Basic 9, you WILL love it, alot of knife with a great warranty for the price. I don't know how often it pops up in the for sale section though....I think I was just lucky.

Thanks for the links, but I now have a new question. What's the difference between regular and modified infi? Which one is better? Are there any performance tradeoffs?

Well, that's three questions, I know I should learn to count

Daniel,
Now you did it, I've got to add more links ;)

First here is what Cliff Stamp posted about this issue last year
"Infi vs. Mod. Infi

Busse Combat has stated that mod-INFI has 25% less performance than INFI in regards to knife related aspects. Based on the claims made about INFI, this would still put mod-INFI well above other steels.

The regular INFI line is tempered harder than the M-INFI blades. RC is a measure of how compressible the material is, which is how resistant it is to straight on deformation. Thus the INFI blades should resist being pushed in at the edge stronger than the M-INFI ones assuming similar profiles. There is a also a comparison somewhere on the web which shows that the INFI blades are stronger than the M-INFI ones in that they are able to resist more force without breaking at the blade/handle juncture. This can be extrapolated to show that the INFI blades have greater resistance in their edges to rolling / indenting from lateral forces.
From work that I have done this seems to be the case. For example when I put a really coarse edge (x-coarse DMT) on my Basic and did some chopping (500 chops) I saw a performance decrease in slicing ability that could not be restored by steeling. When I repeated this with a fine India finish I could restore the slicing performance with a steel. What this shows is that the microserrations on the x-coarse finish are large enough that they break away under impact. When I repeated this with my Battle Mistress, steeling would restore the edge even when an x-coarse finish was used.
The only drawback is that the M-INFI might be a little tougher, I am only guessing this because it is slightly softer. I have not stressed my BM in this regard yet so I have no data to support this. My BM is currently out on loan and once it comes back I will give the edge some hard impacts and compare it to the Basic.

I cannot believe someone still has Basics in stock!!!
I guess this is more of a reason to break down and pick up a Basic 9.

Thanks for the info payback:)

Thank you again for help:) I'll stop pestering you people with questions now. I'm off to search for a basic#9, and if not, then a bm.

Owen,

Thanks very much for your kind reference. I'm delighted with my Basic 9 and am glad to hear that you are enjoying yours. If I had any kids I'd have to keep the Basic 9 that's still available----- because I believe they'll be burying me with my personal 9. (I always liked that Busse poster!)

DWK, You've got mail re: that Niner. :D

I finished up some basic (pun intended) modifications to my beater Basic 7 this afternoon. It's now got a dual straight ground edge that is insanely sharp after a session on the EdgePro Apex, a choil with rounded edges to minimize skin chewing, a TekLok on the OnScene Tactical sheath, and a braided guard between the talon hole and the thong hole. Many thanks to Strabs for his braid picture, the tips on how much paracord to use, and the wrapping instructions. The tips were a world of clarification toward making the job seem easy enough to finally start it. Mine isn't as tightly packed and consistent as his guard, but proved functional chopping up some brush this afternoon nonetheless.

Yours in nuclear Basics,
Greg
