Are Bellota horse rasp good for knife making?

Word on the 'net is yes. I made one from a bellota rasp that turned out pretty good. Didn't quite nail the HT as well as a regular file... the usual "nonmagnetic, quench" routine left some hardness on the table, IMO.

I was reading in an early edition "Knives" annual where Alfred Pendray used Bellota rasps made in Spain for knives. Sorry, I don't remember which edition the article was in. Anyway he said the Bellota rasps had excellent steel that was suitable for a first class knife blade.

I would assume if you did a proper HT and temper they would do fine, I just know that I have broken one or two across the rump of a horse....that aspect would'nt bode well for a blade. The proper temper may be the kicker to getting a good blade as they come brittle. Save-edge and Simmons are made of good steel as well.
I 've tried making a few tools and ornamental stuff with old rasps and it is hard to get the dimples from the teeth out. This might make getting a good edge geometry established without little "spots" along the edge difficult. ( I assume you are planning on forging the blades) You almost have to weld each tooth back down into it's groove - aggrevating....
