Are bolsters "out of style"?

I don't see too many knives with bolsters anymore. Granted they aren't necessary on most knives nowadays, but I would expect to see more.

Anybody noticed this trend the last few years?

Easier, cheaper, and stronger to have one piece handles, even though I like how bolsters look on a knife.

I really like the way a bolstered handle looks. But then again I've never been accused of being "in style".

I like bolsters on my slip joints. when a folder's handle is all sorts of ergonomic it starts to look silly with bolsters.

Unless you are talking purely production knives, a fair amount of knives with bolsters, both fixed blade and folding are of integral construction, which doesn't get any stronger.

I still see plenty of custom slipjoints with integral bolsters. But fixed knives with bolsters are becoming a rarity. Even fewer on liner locks.

I was referring to production knives for the most part.

If you look in the maker for sale section, just on here, in fixed blades, there are far more knives without bolsters than there are knives with bolsters.

I think a lot of it has to do with being tacti-cool. It's the rage for the majority of consumers.

Yup, especially tactical knives. I don't remember the last time I saw a tactical folder with a bolster. Fixed tacticals with bolsters are pretty much extinct too.

Good to see bolsters are still wanted. I'm making knives again so I will have to be sure to have bolsters.

Aside from Emerson customs I don't know of many modern folders with bolsters. I think Yuna makes some with bolsters as well but I'm not positive. IMO it depends on the knife design more than anything else as to wether or not it will look good with bolsters. For instance even with Emerson's I think the a-100 or mv-1 looks great with while the cqc-7 doesn't need them.

I'd like to see more bolsters. So far I've mostly seen them on stilettos, but rarely on any other folders.

I picked this one up just for the bolstered look. Fine knife to boot!! It's going to get some custom micarta or g10 scales before long though.
