Differentially heat treated?
IIRC they arn't and don't need to be because INFI steel can be heat treated to 60RC and not become brittle. So it can absorb the impacts better than most steels. Am I off here?

This I do not know, went searching on the Busse forum to see if it was mentioned, but I didn't find any threads, who shall be the one to enlighten us?

When Ron Hood tested the INFI in a BM blade he found it was ~Rc60 as deep into the blade (moving up from the edge) as he could test. See the review at http://www.survival.com/mistress.htm for the whole write-up.

"The first thing I wanted to know was the actual Rockwell hardness of all three blades. I’ve tested a lot of knives in my day and I have encountered many that are far below their advertised Rockwell hardness. The Busse blades were tested for me on digital hardness testers and measured 59.8 Rc, 60.I Rc and 60.3 Rc. ! I have never encountered this level of consistency before.

I tested the blades as far down the spine as possible and was able to determine that these knives are not differential tempered. The entire knife is 60 Rc."
