Does anyone know if Butterfly Knifes are legal for carry in Missouri?

"Switchblade knife" means any knife which has a blade that folds or closes into the handle or sheath, and
(a) That opens automatically by pressure applied to a button or other device located on the handle; or
(b) That opens or releases from the handle or sheath by the force of gravity or by the application of centrifugal force.

While it doesn't specifically mention balisongs, the "force of gravity or by the application of centrifugal force" part might be applied to them. Unless you get a definite "ok" from the DA, I'd play it safe and assume the answer is "no".

You can own them all you want though.

I read the law and the way it sounds you would think they would be Illegal and this is my assumption. However,

"That opens or releases from the handle or sheath by the force of gravity or by the application of centrifugal force. "

this can be argued that knifes with thumb studs and thumb holes and possibly waves would also be illegle since the majority can be opend by centrifugal force yet these are legal to carry. Rather confusing  but then again what law isn't.

Technically balisongs open neither with gravity nor "centrifugal" force. But the word centrifugal has been so misapplied to any rotating object that they could still arrest you over it.

Can you imagine calling a physics professor as your witness in court, and how the average jury would feel about him/her trying to educate them on the difference between centifugal and centripetal?

What he said.

ok, im just gonna push my luck and keep carrying mine and since I dont plan on getting arrested or pulled over for speeding or anything I dont think it will be a problem.

Since, the people who wrote the law arent educated enough to know which words mean what I think I have the right to disregard them.

I would like to know as well. I bought mine at the Missouri State Fair here in my hometown of Sedalia, and I was right next to a State Trooper when I bought it, he was buying some other knife and mentioned to me "nice knife."
So I would assume it would be legal, but do not take my assumptions to heart, I would still like to know more if it is legal or not.

LOL that would be intertaining.

The same can be said for the term "Flick of the wrist". The motion used by everyone includes the movement of the forearm or the whole arm. In fact few knives can be opened by just the movement of the wrist.

Or he might have been thinking that he would be seeing you in the future ;)
