There are currently two one active thread in the political forum pertaining to religion. Mr. Cox recently closed the other. Before closing the thread, Mr. Cox repeatedly stated:

Let it die or I'll lock it.

There were no infractions recently handed out, nor any illegal activity discussed, nor any mod sass that I detected.

No explicit reason for closing the thread was given, nor any response to the following post.

Why can't we just do the same thing that we do on the other forums?

Tell those who insult others to stop, give those who continue red Chiclets, and if they continue, then lock the thread and/or use the ban hammer.

If it's the negativity towards one group that you object to, then why don't you do the same to the threads that have little other purpose then to bash liberals?

Are threads on religion not allowed, even in the PA?

Topics may be allowed but not be a good idea. We know that certain topics inevitably lead to serious antagonism and consequent bitterness. Moderating to control some of the excesses will either lead to over-moderating -- and we don't get paid enough to cover the antacids needed for that -- or it will calm the discussions to the point of meaninglessness.

That's why politics (and religion) are confined to the Political Arena in the first place: as bad as it can get, at least it's quarantined.

When these discussions do continue beyond the creative, beyond the debate, and become back-biting, it's time to shut them down -- until the next time. Same tune, same choir ...

Obviously, they are allowed. How long any thread should continue depends on the dynamics of that thread.

I believe that by "dynamics of that thread" my learned friend means: as long as those who participate do so in a thoughtful, respectful, polite way. Those who disrupt that environment should expect infractions.

I, personally, hate to see an interesting and productive thread ruined by one or two individuals. This isn't fair to or good for the community at large.

Unfortunately, given the wide range of people we have here, religion threads have not tended to stay as polite discussions but have turned to something resembling an on-line gang rape.

Plus I will not tolerate any proselytizing here.
