In the 2/99 issue of Blade magazine, Kim Breed reviewed Boye's Dendritic steel (cast 440C) vs Dendritic cobalt (cast Stellite). Cutting sisal rope, the cobalt out-cut Boye's steel by well over a 2 to 1 margin. Apparently, it was also reviewed in one of this summer's issues of Tactical Knives; I haven't seen it but some folks referred to it here on the Forum. The results in that test were even more dramatically in favor of the cast stellite.
Since when has Spyderco been considering BDC for its Military? First I've heard of it.
Curious to see how it stacks up against 440V, not sure it'll offer any improvement. My guess is that the difference in edge-holding will be negligible in practical terms (like, how many times do you slice hemp rope each day?). But I'm curious to hear about toughness -- 440V in the mid-50s RC may remain superior...
...but if Spydie does make a BDC model available, will the co. also switch liner and pin materials to make it entirely impervious to salt-water corrosion? Sal, if you're listening, it'll certainly sell, and probably out-do the Mission MPF at its own game, in short time...
