Are different sized washers used in the Sebenza now?

I was wondering if Chris Reeve Knives is using washers of different diameters in current production Sebenzas? By that I mean the washerr on the locking bar side has a smaller diameter than the washer used on the other side. Also what is washer thickness these days?

My large Sebenza has 2 washers of the same diameter.

Also, are there any plans to start using torx screws?

...has had a smaller-diameter washer on the lock side. How old is your large Seb?

Very interesting!

Professor.

Where did you get your large Sebenza? I've never seen one that has 2 of the same size washer.   ;) :p

The "P" models I own use two of the same size washer, they are from '94-'95 or so.

BTW, that's not my Sebenza. Mine (large plain S30V with double thumb lugs) has a "born on" date of December 2002.

Here's another picture (circa 1996):

It's a new model Sebenza with serial number 133. I think one of the members here has it now.

My sebs dating back to 1997 all have the same size washers.
In 1999 I noticed that the new washer system started.
What's the advantage? Any one know?

I think the larger washer helps with blade stability as in lesser blade play side to side. I haven't encountered a Sebenza with any blade play. The one I had above with the small twin washer didn't have any blade play. A larger washer further stabilizes the array.

Well, new model as opposed to the Classic version. The picture is quite vague, but if you look, the numbers 133 are by the CR logo. I purchased it back in the summer of 1996. It had an ATS-34 blade and the titanium handle scales were made with a tad bit thinner stock than the current production.

Wow, thanks for all the replies! By a miracle I found the original box and papers to my knife in my workshop. The knife was made nov 24. 1997 and is the current model, not a classic model. Blade is BG-42. I carry the knife on a regular basis and it's a fantastic knife. I also have a Mnandi and a fixed blade Tanto.

I dont have any problems with blade play. I was just curious about the washers. I use different sized ones on the knives I make. The smaller one allows lock clearance and the larger gives max blade stability but I think it's actually redundent. But the more reserve the better!

Don't forget the difference in the material the washers are made of.
Nylatron and now bronze.
My nylon's are of the same size :)
