I've been perusing the Fallkniven folders and know that they have a great reputation but my question is - are they worth the price? Or am I better off sticking with Benchmades, Spydercos, etc.? Have Fallkniven prices been raised over the past few years because of the falling dollar or are they still reasonable for what you get? One thing for sure, they sure have some sweet looking knives.

One more question, is the k pronounced or silent?

They are worth their $$$$.

(your question is a good excuse to show off my collection!)

I dont own one but i'm gonna get the F1 with black micarta handles. All post I've seen about them is only positive! As far as pronounceing it I think it's Fell-Knieven like saying Evil-Knievel but an N instead of L at the end. Hope that helps:)

Back in the day, I really was into neck knives, as they were great for concealment, and very practical around the campsite, believe it or not. As the years went along, I bought more and put more into the safe. The two that stayed close-by to this day, are both Fallknivens. The steel has held up very well, and both are "ok" to sharpen, thankfully, however they hold it VERY well! I know some people tend to think neck knives are poor choices for SD, however I have grown quiet competent w/these little guys! I have a WM1 and HAD a Garm (G1) fighter. The G1 has since gone to a close friend, however the WM1 is with me often, and does EVERYTHING I ask of it.

As for SD with these little puppies: I think (I read it somewhere once, I think...) the Israeli Mussad(sp?) trains on short lenth wide-bodies fighting knives, employing a "poke & twist" methodology for maximum wound effect. Also bad news if one of these little guys slips in there between a few vertebre!!!

I'm pretty sure that the retailers are jacking prices because of demand, the A-1 went for $140.00 one month, and then was selling at $160.00 the next (this was way before the U.S. dollar dropped). The Thor used to sell for $290.00, and now you can't find it for less than $320.00
It seems like all this started when Fallkniven gained some popularity here on BladeForums. Though, most brands fluctuate in price every few years so it could be coincidence.

The knives they make are very good, a unique blend of practical and elegant design with high quality. If there is a model you really like then I say go for it, chances are you won't find anything like it for a long time.

I agree, I think because of the discussion within Blade Forums about Fallkniven brand the dealers watched the interest and started gouging. I'll buy one in a few years when the interest and gouging go away. They are a knife worth owning, just not at jacked collector prices these are users not safe queens IMO.

That depends on the price. They're certainly worth it over here in Finland, but I don't know how expensive they've gotten there. I do know, though, that at some point, they were cheaper over there, so I guess they couldn't have gotten ridiculously expensive. Fällknivens are very good knives.

I own a Fallkniven U2 and it's a great knife. Good steel, takes a great edge, light, strong lock up. I'd buy another in a heart beat.

Before you guys go accusing any more dealers of 'price gouging', read this;

'While the dollar is stronger in Sweden than a year ago (worth 6.6 kronor vs. 5.9 last year), any gains are being wiped out by the 10.4 percent inflation rate and the new 25 percent value added tax on virtually all goods and services.'

25 percent!

As far as Feel-K-Neeven knives go, yes they are very well made and finished. I have a TK2 and I would rank it among my top 3 [fixed] knives in quality. To my knowledge, it is the only production stainless laminated powder steel blade made. That alone may be worth the price of admission.

Jos, from Belgium:

Wow! You have a NL5cx?!!
Have you used it?
That is some incredible metal in that blade. {64HRC?} I don't know of any other knives that use Cowry X in their blades.

First one I've seen on this forum.
Very nice.

Any knife is only worth what you are willing to pay. I think Falknivens are worth the money and they are quality well made IMO.

Thanks for the input and, Wow - great pics Jos!

I'm considering either the TK3 or the P. If the TK3 the jigged bone looks would be a must. If the P, maybe the blue bone scales although it's one of those things where one moment the blue bone looks awesome and the next moment I think it would be my last choice (which could be the basis of a whole new thread - "Ever been mentally whipsawed as to whether a knife is beautiful or nasty?).

To any who own both the TK3 and the P, which do you favor?

I like 'em both. But the TK3 feels more comfortable in the hand (at least for me). The P has the advantage of one handed opening. Hey, you'll end up buying both anyway :D.

The P (and U1) with the yellow or blue bone I don't like. I have the Cocobolo version (SG3 steel), and the Micarta version (VG10 steel).
As you can see in my pic in post #2 I have all the TK 3's. My personal favourite: jigged bone, it has a real "classic" look. But they are all beautiful!

Up to now I have the F1, S1, MC1, G1, NL1, NL5cX, WM1 (x2), TK3 (x6), P (x2), U1, U2, F1 Black Micarta. I guess I like Fallknivens...

Thanks. It is very nice. I haven't used it. It's a safe queen!

Fall.. are made in Japan,Seki.mainly are from Hattori.
however, as bigger ones made made of lamin. Vg10 , They should be cheaper rather than older one whole Vg10.
For big one , there are some alternative ,such as G.sakai (made by 440c or HSS).
For smaller powder steel , we can choose zdp-189 from G.sakai .[spyderco]
The only one fallkniven knife is worthy for money is U2.

I know the thread asked about Fallkniven folders, however, I recently received an A1 and am still blown away. Best value for money I think I've come across so far. Not a lot more than I paid for my RAT-3, and a hell of a lot more knife.
This is just a positive comment on the Fallkniven brand, I guess.
I believe I will be after a fallkniven folder very soon. The new spyderco delica G10 may put that purchase back for a while, though.

checked a couple of prices and if I compare the Fallkniven A1 in an European webstore and a US webstore I come to the following conclusion:
Europe: UK: 192 US $ (97 British pounds), Also saw Holland: 159 Euro (= 233 $) and Germany: 171 Euro (= 251 $)
US: 145 US $

So in the US you can actually get them cheaper than in Europe. Nothing to complain about I would think.

Awesome pix/collection Jos
Fallkniven's are somewhat pricey, but if you can afford one they are worth it imho

There is one thing to look out for though. The Fällkniven virus. It is contageous and it has no cure. When you buy one knife you just need to have another one and anaother one and so on. I myself have about 30 different ones. Mostly F1s though.

Yes they are worth the money and they are really not that expensive considering what you get. There is a Fällkniven for anyone from the first knife to your kids (WM1) to the most hardened spec ops guy (F2, he likes to fish when he is not specopsing). There are the kind of dull looking work knife in the F1 and S1 to the safe queen in the NL5cx.

Normally a knife company has a linear knife range. From small to large. Fällkniven has a two dimensional price range. From small to large and less and more "fancy". Lets start with the F1, you want a bigger knife, take the S1, a smaller WM1, a fancier NL5 or TK1/2, a small fancy TK5/6, bigger fancy NL4, more hunter H1, more fish F2, even more knife A1 and so on.

And getting a F1 for between 85 and 100 dollars is not expensive. Unless you are a person who drops knives high and low, then a Mora or Hultafors is the choice. They are the best value for that price. OR learn to put the knife back after you used it.

If you are on a daytrip where you know the area, you can drag along a kitchen zink if you want, it is not far from home and if it starts rain or gets boring you are home for tea and biccies in a hour, there is no NEED for a Fällkniven, but it is nice to have, you know it works and it makes you feel smart, at least you have the gear if SHTF. If you are on a three month tour in Belize you can not just go home to mum for tea and biccies if your knife breaks so you NEED something that works.

However mankind is not into getting stuff that is "enough". If so the only car on the roads would be the VW beetle. It is enough to transport four people and 100 kilos of potatoes (1936 specs). You dont NEED a three ton Hummer to do the same thing. The same goes with knifes, why buy a Mora when you can get a Fällkniven :) The F1 IS actually a "survival knife" even though it lacks all those gizmoes usually seen on knives of that kind. The reason is that it is a "outdoor" survival knife, not a "combat" survival knife". It focuses on the part where you have already left your flying thing and has to wait in the forest or so until rescued. It is also at the same time a really good civilian "survival" knife. If a civilian ends up somewhere in the forest and has to survive he encounters the same obstacles as the pilot does, the elements are as dangerous no matter if Onkel Sam or Joes Pipes and Plumbing signs your paycheck.

So in short, yes the Fällkniven is worth the money. Buy it, use it, love it, buy another one, use it, love it, live the rest on the month on bark, grass and noodles :(.
It gives "respect" to have a Fällkniven. Not that it is huge like Croc Dundees knife, but people who see it know that YOU are into quality. It is like wearing a fancy watch. People who know, they know. Also it is so "low profile" so they will usually pass security checks or park rangers or any other persons who might be offended with humongous combat rambo knives.

Good luck with your knife.

I have got 5 Fallknivens,U2,U1,T3,F1 and the IDUN.
Top class build quality and V.good steel.
Buy one and you will see what the reputation of Fallkniven is all about.
I have various EDCs (Spydercos,Kershaws and Benchmades) but I always carry one of the Fallkniven Folders with me for reliable back-up.

There is one thing to look out for though. The Fällkniven virus.

That's true. I've got it big time! (problem is I also have a William Henry and a CRK Mnandi virus...)

Nice post Nodh!
