Are Fiddleback Knives Getting Sharper?

The first few Fiddlebacks that I got at the beginning of this year were sharp. Not super shaving sharp, but totally acceptable.

The last few knives that I have purchased have been AMAZINGLY sharp. My last purchase (a Reculse from KSF) can pop hairs off my arm and slice super thin catalog paper with ease. Other Fiddleback knives that were more recently produced are similarly sharp.

Has something changed? Are the folks at Fiddleback doing something different? Have I just gotten lucky? Please, share your thoughts and experience with the factory edge on your Fiddleback knifes.

I think I remember Andy saying that Fiddleback Forge was modifying their final sharpening process to be better and more efficient. I know the last two I have purchased, also both Recluses, were extremely sharp out of the box. It seems like he made the change sometime after his Bark River visit.

That's been my experience too. Recent ones very sharp.

Yeah .. he changed the method used after hanging out with the Bark River guys for a week .. back in Feb or March.

Personally, I never worried too much about it as I put my own edge on them any way. Something to be said for a hair popper right out of the box, or wrapping in this case though.

That would align with my experience. My knives purchased after July(ish) are sharper.

I agree with Mac; all the Fiddlebacks I have owned sharpen up REALLY well. However, getting them sharp out of the box is cool!

We have noticed a difference with our last few batches from Fiddleback. I even commented on it on several forums. Definitely took it up another notch!
