Are Gun Belts Comfortable?

In what context will you be wearing this? On duty or as a concealed item? For concealed it will be a pain. Gunbelts are not intended for normal belt duty and are typically worn over your regular belt and attached to it via snaps (in case you didn't know).

As for thickness and stiffness, I've tried a couple different rigs in both leather and whatever the synthetic belts are made of and never noticed a difference in the thickness or stiffness once I had worn them a couple days. You may have problems with your holster fitting if it is overly thick though.

No expert here however my gun belts are built with an internal stiffener - Galco contour, The Beltman and Wilderness Instructor..none are a 1/4" thick.

As to a duty batman or utility belt its about humping the weight of all the gear a LE job requires. As Bigfatts noted they are attached to an underbelt with keepers and ALWAYS feels good to remove.

Someone who has experience with a >1/4" gun belt may have some helpful experience.

Best.

I'm not looking for a duty belt. This is for concealed (civilian) carry. Most of the leather gun belts I've seen are close to 1/4". For $39 (for the Old Faithful kit,) it seems it would be the last leather casual-stlye belt I'd ever need to buy—assuming it's comfortable.

If you are asking if a 1-4" thick belt is comfortable with jeans, mine are. I am 6'3" and 200#. I wear my 1/4" thick gun belts most of the day, and when I am out of the house, they support an IWB or OWB holster with anything from a 1911 Cobra Karry to a Kahr PM9 with no problem at all. If you intend on carrying a gun, I highly recommend you get yourself a very heavy gunbelt. By that I mean a belt made to carry a firearm. I would also recommend a roller buckle and 7 holes spaced 3/4" apart. The kit you pictured may do just fine, but I have not seen the finish product and cannot comment until I do so.

One good source that will run you about $60 or so delivered.

I've worn my Monica Kuehn gunbelt every day for the past three and a half years, even when I'm not carrying. It's very comfortable (much more comfortable than my Wilderness instructor belts), and as thick as a Bic pen.

The Saddleback tow belt isn't exactly a gun belt per se, but it's at least 1/4" thick, more rigid than my wilderness belt (my wilderness is several years old), and is more than capable of carrying IWB, or OWB. I'm not trying to talk you out of the cheaper belt you're wantin', but if it's as rigid as the Saddleback, it'll do fine for what you're plannin' on. What are you planning on carryin', & is it gonna be IWB, or OWB? And what holster are you gonna use?

I normally carry a S&W 642 in a pocket. Every once in a while I carry a Ruger SP101 3" in a leather belt slide holster. While it works, it's not comfortable for extended use. The holster I'm considering is a Crossbreed OWB Snapslide.

Both of those are heavier than what I carry, so you might have a little droop after a while carryin owb. I'm not familiar with how much stretch that particular belt is capable of with extended weight on it.

I have leather gun belts from makers such as Mitch Rosen and factory leather gun belts like Galco and others. After many years of concealed carry, I'd recommend nylon operator belts made by 511 and Galco. I find that they support the weight better and with the buckle arrangement and velcro, they a more adjustable for a precise fit.

Huh. I'd have thought someone named Bowman1911 would carry a heavy 1911. I guess I shouldn't assume such things! :)

Yeah, I do carry a 1911 from time to time, but it ain't a heavy one. I carry a Colt New Agent cocked & locked with vz grips. Just a sight trough though. No real sights to get in the way. It's pretty light for a 1911 on your hip. Most of the time I carry a Kahr PM9. it's nice & light, & oh so comfy.

I love all three of my Bullhide Belts. They have made all the difference in ease of carry, and they are very comfortable, whether or not I am carrying a gun.

I have been wearing really thick belts (from thebeltman.net) for about 6 years and they are fine for daily (even non-gun) use. I highly recommend them. One of the better values in gun belts.

I'm considering an Old Faithful Holster Belt Kit. It's advertised as being "over a quarter of an inch thick!" Does the stiffness or thickness of a gun belt make them uncomfortable?

That one is not cut with a bias for your hips. A thick belt that is cut straight is a very poor choice. Laid flat on a table it should have some curve. Not as exaggerated as a women's belt but, a thick men's belt with no curve will bunch and become a real pain to thread though belt loops.

Highly recommend a amish belt from Hanks Clothing, 20 bucks for a superior belt that carrys holsters in or out and is very comfortable. Been wearing mine daily for six months and ashamed of how much money I threw away on other belts.

Marketing gimmick, don't dare pay extra for this "curve" feature.....any "straight" leather belt, even at 1/4" thick will conform to your body soon enough with a little wearing.
