Are Himalayan Import's Products Represented At Knife Shows, Etc.?

With a nice table display, replete with information about the history of khukuris, the Ghurkas, a bit about Nepal, a thanka or two and other Nepalese artwork, and a nice selection of the knives themselves, I'd think they would sell nicely. ;)

There are MANY gun and knife shows in the U.S., and H.I.'s forumites are spread out all over the U.S. ... Seems like a good idea to get quality khukuris to the folks who are looking for them. I'm sure it's been done; I'm just curious if it's an ongoing thing...

I have probably seen a total of ten non-US khukuris at gun shows over the years. None were HI products. A couple were nice and almost worth half of the price being asked. Most were tourist models. Most knives being offered and actually being purchased at such shows are junk ($10.00 or 2 for $15.00).

There are few knife shows in the immediate area. Not many khukuris at the few I have attended.

If logistics permitted, it might be worth a try at a knife show.

I wonder how the eBay experiment has worked out?

Reno Knives shows our stuff and Reno shows but that's it. I don't have the motivation or strength to do shows.

I appreciate and can relate to what you say, Uncle Bill. Here's an idea...

If some of the forumites will be at shows, and better yet, if they have friends exhibiting, or they themselves are, there are some interesting possibilities... They can show off a few of their personal models, and let the showgoers know where the H.I. khukuris can be purchased.

The H.I. products will certainly be represented by well informed, enthusiastic khuk knuts. The same knuts can explain the differences between tourist trade khukuris, and those made to put in a good day's work, are guaranteed for life, and have references as far as torture tests, etc.

I would not be surprised if the "H.I. representatives" had a lot of fun promoting H.I. products, and they can do so very casually, while at the same time being participants in the knife show, albeit in a small way. If just one client was "sold" on a H.I. khukuri with each effort, I feel it would be a success.

No investment is even needed, excepting some photocopies of materials already on the H.I. website. Nothing sells better than enthusiam, especially when the products match same. ;) The "H.I. rep" could even borrow BruiseLeee's idea of a bucket in which to store the khuks; very little space is needed. :D

I've prodded before.....and if I get a table at Blade next year, might prod a little more...

So far, I've done 2 shows with khukuris (as well as other knives) on my table....and both have done well, though it seems like the last one was better....and then there was the MWKK....:D
