can anyone please let us know if Jack Levin's folders are auto or manual?
his knife looks complicated and has some type of locking design, but I am wondering if it is an auto knife indeed. (like Jeff Harkins triton or so)
I am new member here, can't upload pics of his knife, but in case you wondering, search for it and look for the expensive ones. those are the ones I am referring to.

I googled his knives but only see pics (most from sharpbycoop, great pics though), no videos or detailed reviews. I guess people who have it don't care to post pics on internet.

I know it is expensive, but I can't resist. before I pull the trigger, I want to make sure it is legal to own.

thank you in advance

^^^ Many are. Not all in my experience. Truth is, Jack was VERY cautious about autos. Living in Brooklyn, he needed to be.

Some have a replaceable transformative spring: brass for a 'gentleman's' auto (or CA auto as it's also known), steel for ZING!

Rarely found. It depends.

Good luck searching!

Coop

I've got one that transforms from a 'presentation auto' to an auto with a special 'key' and is even engraved not to use the auto fuction in the US! The stingray scaled piece is a 'presentation auto' only.

I have 3 of Levin’s slipjoints. Unfortunately not autos. One with automatic shield.
I am following up on his work from time to time. Coop is absolutely right. Levin is very cautious about legal rules in NY.
As I know, Jack made his last knife in 2009 for Boston show IN 2010. Don’t know why, but he did not show up there. He demolished his shop and donated his equipment to his friend Keith. Last few years he was more interested in mechanism theory and was working on couple of his patents. Also he was working on design of the new knife in the shop of his friend George. I hope Jack will not mind me saying all this.:)

would you mind posting pics of your slipjoints.

thanks

Both of the knives pictured are in essence slip-joints but what would be the back-spring is part of the blade-tang.

Same as you, can’t upload pics. Maybe will buy higher level of membership sometime soon.
You are lucky to find Levin for sale, as it is very rare. I was trying to get any, even fixed – no luck. Simple logic- why would he demolish his shop if he would like to continue making knives?

I've enjoyed seeing Jack's knives over the years and Coop has really photographed some outstanding examples.

Here are 2 of my Levin's. Both slip joint not auto. On the second knife shield works as fixator.
I was thinking of fair trading the left one w/o the shield for newer with the shield, but could not find anything.
Seems they are not even in US. Sometime you can come across some parts, but who needs them.

hi Dalex67

the knife on the right side, what is the piece (crown shape) in the middle ? I saw similar designs on some of his other knives. is it the locking mechanism
the knife on the left side, is the smaller piece (U shape) serving the same function as the crown shape does to the other knife?

lucky guy, good taste :P thanks for uploading
