Are Kershaw Shun and Hattoris made by the same manufacturer?

The Kershaw Shun series looks remarkably similar to the Hattori's. Both have a VG10 core but the Hattori is more money. Anyone know if they are made by the same company? I thought since HAttori contracts them out it could be a possibility.

Note the similarities. Any thoughts?

They do look similar. Perhaps so? Why not email Kershaw and see if they are willing to let you know who made it for them? That would narrow things down a bit.

Just like Moki making knives for beretta and spyderco, not to mention some others. Like camillus who makes knives for quite a few recognizable manufacturers.

I'm not sure it's the same. I've done a bit more research and the Kershaw uses 16 layers while the Hattori reportedly uses 63 layers:confused: Also the blade shape differs from the HAttori with every knife.

Hattori geometry slightly better- balance is decent- best slicing knife I have ever used and I own hundreds. Kershaw very handle heavy cuts well but not as good as the hattori. I personally wish hattori made another santuko 1/2 inch longer and 1/4" wider.

where's the best place to get hattori knives? how much? how do they compare with, say, Kenichi(?) Watanabe's custom kitchen knives?

thanks

"Please note this knife is subcontracted by a company in Takefu City for Hattori. The Damascus blade has the Hattori patent and this knife is distributed by Hattori. Mr. Hattori has told us that he is proud to attach his name to this knife. . . Hattori also makes a VERY high-end line of custom Damascus knives ranging in price from $350 to $1250. These are available upon request."
