I never see gun mfrs state a type of steel (other than "stainless")

Anyone know what kind of stainless is used in guns?

Different for each factory?

I believe I have seen in print some gun barrels made of 4140 steel. I don't thin you'll see any 440-C or 1095 barrels :)

I remember seeing that DSA makes their stainless FAL receivers out of 416 stainless. But most of theirs are milled from a 19 pound forged chunk of 4140.

A lot of gun bbls are made from 416SS
