Given, the recent slump in the US economy and the slowdown that is materializing in Europe and continuing in Japan, has anyone notice any changes in knife retail prices?

What are knife prices doing in your area?
1) Holding steady
2) Rising
3) Droping

Holding steady darn it!!!! It'd be great if the economy went up but knife prices went down

I vote;

Holding steady, but I have seen some rarer pieces starting to change hands.

Interesting question.

I think the knife industry seems to be holding it's own. In fact, I think the industry seems to be doing rather well. There still seems to be a strong demand for good factory products and the customs should also be doing fine.

Let me tell you a little story.

Knife-X made in the USA sells for $100 US

Shipped to UK, when model is about to be discontinued.

Now sells for £159! Or about $250?

Import said knife from a knife shop, pay oh $25 postal plus 17.5% V.A.T. plus a 'special' knife tax of 8.5%. SUXS!
=$160 thats how they seem to work it out... Oh then they change it to £ and get a 40-60% mark up... DOH!
Lucky for me I have a lot of 'friends' in the good old US of A!

There's a slump in the economy? I'm making more money than I ever have and my stock is doing well.

Don't rain on my parade.

Certain makers knives are doing quite well. I have sold over 20 Loveless and Moran knives in the last few months. Many people are borrowing from their declining retirment plans and investing in higher end collectible knives. I have also done that very thing. In the last two weeks I have sold 15 knives of varying price range and makers. The one thing that they all had in common was quality of workmanship and a good name in the business,
