Are Marbles still avalible in 52100?

I am searching for a good fixed blade made with carbon steel. Marbles seem like the right choice because they are well suited for field dressing deer (my main use) and I appreciate the traditional look. My problem- I really don't want the new ones made with ALCHEMITE MC steel, I would much rather have good old 52100. Anyone know if they are still avalible in 52100, and where I can find them?

Thanks in Advance,
Kevin

I can't help you with the Marbles, but Swamp Rat blades are made with SR101, which is supposed to be a close kin to 52100.

Sadly they don't seem to be available any more. AG Russell may have a few left, and if you look around on the net you might find a few. Posting in Knives Wanted to Buy might get you a used one as well. I'm bummed too, it's too bad when a good company starts to lower it's standards instead of pushing the envelope.

Try going to:

marblesknives.com

They're not Marbles the company, they're a dealer called The Bowie Company I think. Among their Marbles offerings you should see a listing for Marbles in the 52100. Last time I checked they had about 4 or 5 knives in that steel left.

Don't trust Knifecenter in terms of carrying the old 52100 Marbles. Their product description and photos probably aren't updated, and their staff probably don't know enough about the details of Marbles current history to tell you if their stock is the 52100 steel or the Alchemite. I'm not saying don't buy knives from them, as I've bought from them before and the transactions are fine. I'm just saying don't depend on them for correct detailed information on what you're buying.

Since you are willing to use a non-stainless like 52100 and you favor a traditional design, take a look at the great value in D2 alloy knives from Queen cutlery. Bullman has great deals. D2 should work better than 52100 for simple hunting tasks. I am assuming that you are not trying to break major bones with your blade.

Thank you for all of the replys! I am really set on getting a Marbles because:
1. I like the style of their small fixed blades
2. They have been made in my homestate, Michigan, for over 100 years

Over the 4th of July long weekend:D I will visit a local B&M store and a Gun and Knife show in my quest for the perfect Marbles knife!

See the Marble's forum over at Knifeforums.com

You'll get all the answers you're looking for regarding Marble's Alchemite MC (Mystery Carbon) & Marble's 52-100 knives as well.

It's all there in past posts.

It's worth the time to take a look if you're really interested.
