Hi guys,

Just a quick question, how available have micarta grips for the BK2 size been?

My dealer in Australia has been unable to get them and is starting to think they are a figment of my imagnation... all his suppliers either have them on eternal back order of say no can do????????

Are they limited runs or something? Perhaps Bladite or Toooj can weigh in, my Dealer sent a please explain email to KaBar last night because all the US sites have them listed but as a Dealer he can't get them.

Desperately seeking bling,
Travin

PS I would order straight from the USofA buuuutttt postage is crazy high!

I hear ya...I wouldn't want to pay that postage either. They are definitely NOT a figment of your imagination. I have them on both my BK7 and BK2. Good luck in your search, brother. I sincerely hope you get to "pimp that 2"...

they don't exist. there's one pair we mail around to fun ya ;)

if you have the means, you could perhaps order directly from a given vendor, buy at least 6 sets, and then resell them locally :) make a profit!

or something :)

Hmmm KaBar hasn't replied to my Dealers request for information, it has been 24hrs since he emailed them, but he says its not uncommon for poor communication from them (among others). Kinda contry to the good customer service the guys on here receive. :(:(:(

depending on when you emailed them, 24 hrs and all that, the person who needed to see it probably has 500 of those to go through, and being Friday and all, and facing the weekend before a 3+ day weekend coming up? yah, you might want to wait a week.

also, it's the end of the financial "year" for many companies, depending on their structure. lots of times, they've closed the books, and aren't going to reopen until "next year". bad time of of the season... lots of Summer vacations going on.

heck, in Europe, most people have 3 months of holiday, and take a lot of it at once. getting stuff done in the Summer? ain't gunna happen. ran into that... "okay, we're closing the office, see you guys in 2 months! cheers!"

Check out Tomar's KA-Bars. they have them there for all Beckers.

I just checked them out as im looking for the scales too.

Scales: 37.50 $
Shipping: 36.50 $

I dont understand why dealers cant slip such small items into a bubble-wrap envelope and send it as a small regular letter/pack. Instead of charging the same fee for light/heavy items

And then i have to add about 40% in import taxes and fees. So theyll end up costing me over 100$

Yup its a hard pill to swallow! Thats why I'm hoping my dealer can get them so I can buy them off him for a sane price, he has a Kabar acc so I'm struggling to see why its such a problem (obviously tomars sell 100 times more stock than him so they would have preference)

Thanks Bladite for pointing out the timing thing.... its not something I considered (although he has been trying to order them for over a month) I will give it more time.

Thanks for the responses guys
Cheers,
Travin

well, you could write to your vendor, explain the issue that the shipping is rather high for such light items, ask for explanation.

here's a thought... ask the vendor to toss the screws/nuts (xray avoidance :>), tape the handles to a bit of cardboard so they don't shift, and try the letter pack routine with the understanding that it's at your risk... if the price can be lower. course, that's more work for them, but it might work out.

when you get them, the screw hardware should be easy to get (well, it's not metric, but should be, and heck, go stainless.

your other method would be to have someone buy them for you here (not me! oiy!), and send them to you as a gift? another thought.

Im going to wait and see if my english dealer can get them home...if not then ill probably contact some US stores and see if they can be flexible.

One way or another ill get my micarta scales!

My vendor (in Aust.) still has them on backorder, and no reply to his emails to KaBar.

Shits me off, really puts me off buying American, too many companies do not seem interested in international sales so they either hike the prices right up or totally ignore you.

I just bought some brown canvas micarta and im planning to make my own scales. I havent tried it before, but theres gotta be a first time or else ill ask my fellow BF'ers for help.

Maybe someone here could get them and send them on.
Gotta be alot cheaper than Kabar doing the shipping.
