Are more folders now tip up only instead of tip down only?

I do not recall seeing a single tip up folder When I was into knives fifteen years ago. I'm sure there were some out there, but I was only looking at at blades at pawnshops and a local swap meet.

Nowadays I see more folders that are tip up only than tip down only.

What are everyone's observations about this?

I would agree for the most part. Personally, I like tip up better, but when it comes to 4" blades or more, I think then tip down is a bit safer than just relying on the detent.

I still cannot figure out why more knife makers do not utilize:
1- Longer, pocket friendly clips
2- 4 way carry options
3- Better clip positions (some knives have clips placed in silly locations)

1. I haven't run into pocket clips that have been too short, but I have run into quite a few that are too damn tight. They tear the crap out of my jeans. I hate that.

2. I agree 100%. Being a lefty, I miss out on A LOT of knives because I can't put the clip on the left side. I would immediately buy the Kershaw Spec Bump if they ever drilled holes on the left side.

3. I wish more makers would put the clips closer to the top of the handle so it can ride deeper and more discreetly in my pocket. Sog has the right idea. Other makers should take note.

Just bend em out a little bit. Thats what I do. If you go too far, take it off and rebend it.
