Are newer made pocket knives worth the money?

Hey guys, I'm not trying to start a brand war. I have noticed that good quality pocket knives are hard to find these days. I have a Case XX sow belly made in 2001 and a Case stockman with Gum Fuddy handles made in 2014. I can tell a big difference in the quality between the two. Overall the sow belly is made much better, I hate to put it this way but the 2014 Case looks like something made from Frost Cutlery. I would like to get another pocket knife soon, are there any other decent brands I should check out? Unfortunately, some good German brand knives were bought out by Frost Cutlery. Would I be better off shopping around for a good used knife?

Might get better responses on the traditional forum. You could ask a mod nicely to move it for you.

I don’t have a “Rough Black” or Gum Fuddy Case knife. After reading the Case knife description, http://www.wrcase.com/blog/single/?p=38, I would expect something that looked like coal.

I have many Case knives, many made after 2010. Mine are well made, everything straight, no gaps, polished to perfection, and the steel takes and hold an edge. I have the SS and the CV and based on my experience, Case knows how to heat treat. I have listened to experts inform me about Case knives being “good” or “bad” by historical period, and you know, I don’t care. If the knife I have is well built and takes an edge, that is all that counts.

I also like the modern Schatt Morgans. If you are not happy with Case, try one of them. I am of the opinion that the knives we have today are the best that have ever been. We never had it so good.
