The title pretty much says it all. I just picked up a GEC model 73 in ebony. A very nice knife that has magnetic bolsters. That made me wonder if I have steel bolsters or nickle silver bolsters.

Is it a Northfield? The Tidioute's are all steel if I'm not mistaken, including the bolsters. The Northfields are nickle-silver bolsters with brass liners.

Nickle-silver is brass, zinc and nickle. No steel.

I just tested my Barlow (a Tidioute) and the magnet sticks to the bolsters. The same magnet does not stick to the bolsters of my #15 Diamond Radio Jack (a Northfield).

it is probably steel pivot pin that attracts magnet,if I'm not mistaken 73 bolsters are nickel silver(Tidioute or Northfield)

Pins are usually matched to the bolster material or else they'd stick out like a sore thumb, so if you've got N/S bolsters you'll also have N/S pins.

If the bolsters are nickle-silver, then the pivot pin usually is as well.

I imagine if the bolsters are NS then it could be being attracted to the springs.

The NS bolsters aren't magnetic on mine. Only on the all steel models, or backsprings/blades on non stl models. GEC did made a few STL #73s but the ebony model was a Northfield.
