newer ones have skeletonized liners and the "Gayle Bradley Weatherford" stamp on the locking side of the blade. Supposedly, the older ones have blades with a higher HRC.
the difference in weight is minimal, I can barely tell the difference. I haven't tried to compare the hardness between the two, but I do use the newer version a lot and carry it often, and it is by itself one of the best performing slicers I have. I've sharpened both, and one doesn't seem to be any easier or harder to sharpen than the other using paper wheels.
