Are omega springs made from stainless steel?

Yupp, the title pretty much sums it up. Right now i'm broke, but during 2006 I'm planning to buy a new knife, and I've found some Benchmade models quite promising, but there is one thing that bothers me. What if something corrosive stuff (lemon juice, saltwater, blood) happens to contact with the omega springs? Looks like knives with axis locks are hard to dissassemble, and it is quite pointless too, because if a knife needs these kind of maintenance often, I'm not interested. Also, sending the knife back to Benchmade is not an option for me, since the shipping to Oregon and back would be arond 50 bucks. The good thing is, I don't have to care about their warranty. :D So what are your experiences ladies and gentlemen, are Benchmde's omega springs prone to rust?

Thanks in advance.

i dont think theyre stainless, i would guess some kind of spring steel, if im not mistaking ive read about those omega springs breaking due to corrosion

Ive taken the handle scales off my BM's to clean them fairly easily. These are the full steel liner models, 730, 710, 805. Just dont remove the pivot pin and it's no problem to get them back on. The hard part is finding the proper torx head screwdriver. I sold my 710 to a friend and then cleaned/sharpened it for him for a while. I never noticed any corrosion on the omega springs. He used it for landscaping, so there's no telling what he put the knife in.

Funny how sometimes you happen into a very timely thread.

I lost track of my Benchmade Mini Griptilian last week and thought it lost.

Eventually I found that I had sent it through a laundry cycle (washer, but not dryer).

I decided I would be uneasy unless I checked under the handle scales for moisture that had been trapped.

Once it was apart, that knife was a pain in the butt to put back together.

It's easy to have the correct hex wrench size, though: if you buy yourself a Benchmade Blue Box kit and you'll have what you need.

I had not noticed any corrosion of the omega springs. I worry about that sort of thing, too.
