I live in new york dose any one know if there legal to carry I know a dagger is but what if it has a single edge

It would likely fall under "dangerous knife" or "dirk," because obviously falls within the caselaw definition of "its own characteristics which show that it is primarily intended for use as a weapon."

Even if it was legal (which isn't the case in most places), you'd still be in a lot of trouble if police found one on you. Push daggers aren't utility knives, and carrying one pretty much screams weapon. It's never a good idea to carry one.

In my state of Tennessee the law states you can carry up to four inches. It also lists you should not carry a knife with the intent of being armed. If you would ever use that dagger wheather legale or not. If you had to face a Jury it would not be in your favor. AT ALL

EDIT: For the life of me I cannot understand why people always ask here first. Seems checking the laws for ones self would be the first step. Then if you are not understanding the laws in place in your state or even city. Then ask members to help. Everyone on here pretty much said the same thing in different way as I did above. The look of a knife even though legle if used in a fight can get you in trouble when the attourny for the state waves it in front of the Jury. That is just that way it is in this world we live in right now. I never carry a knife that looks as though it has only one intent/purpose. And I think you know the intent I speak of. I have a beautiful Kahr with VG-10, custom scales and with a recurve blade. Every time I put it in my pocket I pull it back out. I just do not like how others would view it. Now if I went hunting it would be a perfect portable lock blade for skinning game. My advice, get someting more "looker" friendly for every day carry.

Edit 2: It also depends if there is the same clause in the law that there is in Tennessee. As long as you do not carry a knife over four inches and do not carry it with the intent to be armed. Now what the heck is that supossed to mean. How do they inforce that. Do they expect you to carry your knife to open your little packages and cut little strings and sometimes cut your entre in a fast food place instead of using dull plastic. Then if someone attacks you WHAT they expect you just to let them beat on you and not try to equalize the "for me anyway" situation. I am not geting younger. Suffer great pain with four to many surgeries for pain. Well I will obey it. But I can' help it if the poor soul fell on my knife as I was running away.

found someone that did some very good research on NY knife laws. It looks very comprehensive. You may want to take a look.
Now if I am not doing anything wrong as I just got a perfectly well written reply in another thread yesterday yanked for who knows why.
Here is the site. http://www.knifeforums.com/forums/showtopic.php?tid/192015/

Depends how long the dagger is in NC. If its a fixed blade of any type and its not exposed, meaning your keeping it concealed its illeagal. IF its under a certain length and you keep it in plain view, like on your belt, then its legal. Just depends on where u live. Im pretty sure that EVERYTHING is illeagal in NYC though, lol.
I will add though that most LEO officers, regardless of the state, will consider this a weapon and not a utility tool, your opening yourself for a slew of other legal issues, I will have to check the statues to satisfy all of the elements of this charge but 'Going armed in the terror of the public' comes to mind. You can have just about anything you want on your property as long as it doesn't violate Federal law and u arent a convicted felon.
Finally I would STRONGLY advise you not to carry one on you. Even the 'neck knives' that I like to carry in certain situaitons are illeagal and I am taking a huge risk but if it allows me to live one more day I will accept that responsibility.
