Are SMKW's O/BUCK LE's real LE's?

I just noticed some 110's on SMKW's website that are described as O/Buck Limited Edition's. There's a Skull & Crossbones, a Timber Rattler and one with a handle like a $100 bill. They are all supposed to be serialized.

I sent them an e-mail asking if they were true Buck LE's or an aftermarket job. In the meantime, does anyone else know about them? I have a 110 Timber Rattler that's serialized on the bolster and I know that it was done aftermarket and not by Buck.

If they aren't done by Buck, shouldn't SMKW's be telling potential buyers that they aren't covered by Bucks warranty?

Here's a couple of them.

I kinda like my snakeskin and also the basketweave one (also an O/Buck LE). I can do with out the skulls, however, it's not any worse than this one.

The snakeskin ones sure do look an awful lot like the aftermarket stuff on Ebay, which are not done at Buck.

Hmmm.....

I guess this answers the question. I just received this reply from SMKW. I don't know if they would carry the Buck warranty or not. Maybe someone at Buck could chime in here.

"Dear Customer,

The O/Buck's are made by Owens Cutlery.

Thank you for choosing Smoky Mountain Knife Works, we look forward to doing business with you again soon.

Respectfully,
HELP
Smoky Mountain Knife Works, Inc."

seems a buck dont buy much any more..:(

i did not think these were factory bucks..

in which case any company is selling them
NEEDS to put a disclaimer on them that
bucks 4 ever warranty is void:eek:

wander i what CJ would say?..

Dave...funny you should ask...
It is not possible for us to honor a warranty where someone else has added so much value..with that said we always try to make it right. For the most part eye candy should not be used as screwdrivers anyways....

Maybe it's just me, but for them to say it's a "Limited Edition" is a little deceiving.:thumbdn: I love to get real Limited Edition Bucks, not so keen on the aftermarket ones. I know that they were upfront about it when asked, but I don't think a potential buyer should have to ask. There a tons of folks out there that wouldn't know the difference until they found this place or had someone tell them they really didn't have a "true" Buck LE. JMO.

I'll admit right now I'd be one of those guys that would never have thought about it being other then a genuine Buck. SMKW is a nice weekend trip for us and had just yesterday told my wife on our next trip I'm gonna grab some nicer Bucks in person since until this month have only had 4 my whole life but added 23 so far!

Knowing I know nothing about em have been buying from the web specials as a way to get some nicer stuff then would have ever considered before (and now am hooked, so its working out well for Buck and me!) since felt if it's coming from Buck it's the real deal with no ebay worries. Really appreciate heads up on finding out from reputable places if its "all Buck" or not before buying until I have the knowledge myself to know, then make a decision of buy or not. As a newbie I would never have thought about that. Thanks

I'm not saying that they aren't OK knives. I have both the basketweave and the Timber Rattler and I do like them. I bought them before I knew or knew to ask if they were a real Buck LE. Odds are that I'd never need to use the warranty anyway since I don't abuse my knives (anymore that is).
