Are Spyderco's made in America?

Spyderco has several production facilities in various countries. Each blade is typically marked with the name of the country that manufactured it. They have one in the US, located in Golden, Colorado.

There is also some in Seki City, Japan, some in Taiwan(Salsas were made there), used to be one in Germany(Herbst models) and currently one in Italy(Volpe).

I may have missed some.

on Spyderco's website www.spyderco.com, the description of some models states specifically that those models are made in Golden, Colo.

2 for example are the Chinook II and the Military, as I recall.

The general rule is that any knife made with American steel(i.e. Crucible's S30V) is made in the USA. Those with Japanese steel(VG-10, AUS series, ATS series) are made in Japan.

Anything made with S30V is made in Golden Colorado, which means that of the current models being manufactured, The Chinook II, Manix, Manix 83mm, Military, Native, Paramilitary, Spyker, SWICK, and Yojimbo are all made in the USA.

Recently(meaning off the top of my head I still remember them) discontinued knives which were also made in the USA were the Dodo, Lil' Temperance, Gunting, and possible the Titanium ATR(not sure on this one, perhaps one who has one can confirm)

I count 13, but Sal may not have counted the SWICK, since it's not a clipit.

I believe the H-1 knives are also Japanese made.

Yeah, apparently the Spydies made on the Frogstar (subbcontracted through Sirius Cybernetics) didn't turn out too well....

any Spydie blade marked "Spyderco, Frogstar World B" on one side of the blade and "Share and Enjoy" on the other side is best avoided entirely....

after all, they used a metal that is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike steel** for the blades.... the G-42 handles were really nice though...

;)

** i believe the Sirius Cybernetics marketing lobby (a bunch of mindless jerks who will be the first against the wall when the revolution comes) calls it "Advanced Steel Substitute"....

I love how they add "Earth". It's quirky cool of them. :D

I wonder why they put Earth on there ? perhaps Spyderco know something we dont and spydies are in use in 'other' places ;) Maybe they even have another factory somewhere else out there . They already put the country where the knife was made so why not the planet ? Bet there standard issue in Dreamland :D
