Are "tank" folders still selling well ( Tomcat/SOGwinder II )?

Question is pretty simple.

The Tomcat and SOGwinder II are built like main battle tanks. And are maybe 15 years old. They weigh a ton compared to today's hot folders, and have the ancient lockback that's considered antiquated nowadays. It just happens I'm still awed by the way they are built and like the substantiality of the old lockbacks.

So do I need to plan on buying spares pretty soon before they get dropped from the line or are they selling well enough there's no big hurry on that?

Yeah, if the Tomcat were to go out of production, I'd start buying up spares now. Anybody out there in SOGland know what's in store for the big folders?

These older folders are GREAT! I would also like to see them around for awhile too! They are truly a man's folder and I bet the "old lock backs" are still stronger than alot of todays newer folders! Has anyone done a test to see just how strong the Tomcat is? I'd love to see how much weight it's lock will hold!

It's good to see you over here Rusty! You should try a "One armed bandet" for your Tomcat it fits prefect on the thick blade and you can open it with one hand. Now if I can only find out how to get a pocket clip on the TC it would be the perfect folder!:D

Hi Guys,

Yes, the Tomcat and Sogwinder II (along with their little "brothers," the Stingray and Sogwinder I) are knives on steroids! Very well built and quite beefy.

Rusty, to answer your question, it looks like the Sogwinder II is being considered for discontinuation. If this happens, it will likely occur around the first of next year. I'm not aware at this time of any other current knives in production that are heading toward a similar fate.

Hope this helps.

Fair enough. I appreciate your being upfront with what could well be considered proprietary information.

Too bad you didn't upscale the Sogwinder to a 5" blade at the start of the MegaFolder trend. Or put a stud on a 5" folding Tomcat. Call it a Bearcat.

PS - try flying in for the Reno Air-races. Good fun.

If you decide to retire the Sogwinder II, please let us know. Some of us may want to buy one earlier than expected. ;)
