First off I would like to say this forum is one of the most friendly and professional forums I have ever had the pleasure to partake in. Everyones knowledge and courtesy is unbelievable. So thanks everyone, keep it up! I am new to the traditional forums here and have been buying a few traditionals every once in a while. I was wondering if there was a large difference in quality between a Case Tony Bose knife and a G.E.C. knife. I like to use every knife I own and would use either. I love the look of the case/bose knives and was wondering how they are, is the price worth the pay off compared to another quality brand? For referance, the only comparisions I have are a few Case knives and a Queen mini trapper.

I don't have one, but they are very nice knives. I do have a Sway Back Jack which is a step up from the general Case knives. I would say you would be more than satisfied with either. Were it me, I'd go for one the Case TB collabs.

I'd say the TB collaboration is definetly a step up (in F&F) from the standard Case line. I have a Sway Back Gent as a EDC & it continues to served well. As for over-all - between the two (TB Case & GEC), you can't go wrong with either. You'll have more varity with the GEC's but quality wise - too close to call. IMHO

They are definitely users. They are made to cut and slice. I use mine very often.

Case/Bose Colb. are the BEST production knife being made at there price point!. They're great to use and carry,
The fit and finish are top notch! You can't go wrong with picking one up. Only problem you'll have is
wanting more...lol. Good luck.

I agree, I have a tribal spear and absolutely love it. F and F in as good as it gets for a production slip joint. Makes for a great user and has the looks to match.

The Case/Bose Collaboration knives are as close as you'll get to a custom, in a production knife. They are designed and built to be excellent tools. You really do get your moneys worth. They won't disappoint.

I regularly carry and use a Case Bose dogleg. It is a superb EDC in every way.

Thanks guys I appreciate the responses. Would a few GEC's outweigh a Coffin Jack?

That's a question I have asked a few times or more. For the price of a Coffin Jack, you could find yourself with an 85 Bullet Jack, a 56 Dogleg and a 66 Serpentine - and likely have a few bucks left over. I have owned 3 Case/Bose collabs and still have 2, lost the other one and that hurt(s). I have several 56's, 2 85's and a 66 and carry and use most. For me, where I am at, I would rather have 3 high quality pieces than 1 of superior quality (Case/Bose). That said, a Coffin Jack will one day find its way to my house. And the new 85's from GEC are fantastic. Last thing, the Sway Back Jack is a very exceptional regular production Case knife based on a Bose pattern, just not up to the production standards of the collab.

A Norfolk is my current and longest running EDC. Prior to it, I was carrying a Reeve's Mnandi. The Case collabs are very well done.

I have 4 and use them all the time. Three are ebony. They hold up very good. I use my Ak hunter, Yukon Jack and tribal spear in the kitchen. They get wet and dirty, but clean up easily. Minimal to no rust on the interior. Had some warpage on the wood scale of my Ak hunter, sent it back to case for repair. They returned it in two weeks. The brushed stainless finish on the bolsters is easily touched up with sandpaper if you ding it up. I've dropped the AK hunter numerous times, on concrete twice and the dings in the stainless bolsters are easy to remove. The steel in the blade is hard, but easy to touch up on a Sharpmaker or stone.

I have been a fan of these, placing my first order in 1998 before the slimlines were even produced and remain a fan to this day. Other than a custom, I can not imagine a finer quality knife to carry. If you look back at the patterns, there is something useful for everyone. So if the price does not bother you (yeah quality this nice does have a price) I would go ahead and give one a try. Even if it does not suit you, you should be able to easily recoop. Take your time and look around. There are some nice ones out there at fair prices. ;)

It will not be too long before the 2012 pattern is announced. I look forward to that every year.

Unforunately I only have one but, based on this one sowbelley I would with out hesitation say yes to all your questions!

The Tribal Spear was one of the finest user knives I have ever had the pleasure to own. Until I lost it like a fool.

I think you'll be pleased with this year's choice assuming you don't already know what it is. :p

Keep in mind they have not made a sowbelly except for regular production of Tony's pattern.

To be honest, I am usually one of the last to know. :D.

They are great users. My Tribal Spear and swayback jack are two of my favorite users. I also have a backpocket and coffin jack, and they are great knives too. You cannot go wrong.
