Are the China made Spyerco knives made at the same place as the Byrd knives?

In fact, which factories/firms make all the Chinese spydercos/byrds - has it always been the same place/Places?

I know Sal has said they're no longer using the factory that made the Byrd Harrier. Aside from that, what you're requesting may be information Spyderco sees no advantage, and possibly some disadvantage, in sharing.

I don't think so, purely based on the differences between a typical Byrd vs the Tenacious. There are enough differences to lead me to think they're from different factories.

This is purely a guess on my part.

Don´t think so. The Byrd knives seem/feels more well built, at least mine are.

My impression is exact opposite - I have the G10 Byrd Crow and FRN Byrd Cara Cara and they do not seem to come close to quality of my Spyderco Tenacious or Persistence. The Cara Cara seems to be better build quality than the Crow though, strangely enough...

I know some of them are made by Sanrenmu, I think the Spyderco branded chinese ones are more well made then the Byrds, I took apart my 1st gen Meadowlark and my Tenacious and the Tenacious was WAY more clean, well finished then the meadowlark, also the washers seemed higher quality.

My Tenacious and Persistence are excellent for the price. If it was not for the China stamp, you could not say in my opinion where it was made. Actually they make some of my expensive folders take a back seat, i like the Tenacious so much:thumbup::thumbup::D:D

Now if Sal made that one in the USA with CPM S30V or CTS XHP, but the same shape and ergo, hint, hint, hint... or maybe even CPM D2 or M4... ok stop i am drooling:D:D:D

Not to go off on a OT Rant, but if PRC does not own the factories at some level then how is the country Communist? It stands by definition, no? Mind you I come from Israel where its Socialistic Democracy so the gov. owns some things. I am saying neither here nor there. But I would not be surprised if they were owned by the PRC.

It does not matter, what matters is the QC that spyderco places. I have had plenty of junk built in the USA, sadly. If there is no QC here then you can just as easily get junk made in the USA:mad: Put some QC in the USA and you get some Golden products (Pun intended)

Yeah I've been blown away by my Tenacious. It is certainly on par with most of the rest of the line, especially similar to the Manix and ParaMil.

You can tell that Sal put in a lot of effort into making sure things are done the right way, regardless of which country the knife is made in. And atleast in the case of the Tenacious/Persistance, that effort has paid off extremely well.

Differences in materials and workmanship are not always an indication things were made by different companies. Regardless of location, most companies that do contract work will build what the customer wants, either to hit a quality point or to hit a price point.
