Hey guys, this includes different handles aside from the stock one, like cherry oak etc but as a general(pun not intended) rule of thumb are the Buck 120 General and the Buck 119 Special the same height width etc? Size? Thank you!!

Josh

the 120 is a tad bigger in length. not sure on circumference/width. I didnt measure and don't have either with me right now, but I'm going from memory. they are close though.

using Buck's website measurements on both models, minus blade lengths......on length of handle......shows the 120 being bigger by 0.125 inches. not counting or better said doesn't include the guards measurements, deducted from that difference in length on each model. which likely is the same measurements on both models.

handles on the 119/120 are the same barring sanding variations after assembly.
First off thank you everyone for the help, secondly this quoted is what I had thought too: that both knives despite longer blade length are the same.
However can you comment on the gentlemen above you? Stating that there’s a difference but marginal. Appreciate you both.

I don't think it would be. My main concern would be the difference in blade length of the 119 - 120. Decide what you are going to be using the knife for and how much blade you really need.
^ op, pjsjr said it perfectly there. thats all that matters.

jbmonkey jbmonkey , kudos, you are a so kind to take the time to do that. I was thinking that the around 1/8" could be due to the fact that the guard, handle and pommel might be finished different in grinding for the fitting. But they must do that on CNC machines because the there is no difference and as @Jeff Hubbard said only the finish sanding could make a difference in the thickness of the handle.

You might find two 119’s from different years varying by 1/8” it isn’t all that much

You are talking about a under 3% variance in length

pretty darn close. my memory of 120 being bigger a tiny bit was wrong. trust in what Jeff said, he'd know. for fun..... these measurements in two models I own.

Thank you so much for going out of your way to help! That’s so nice of you and thanks Jeff and all the other comments and I agree on blade length. While we’re all here and talking about it, for those of you who have both. Which do you find you reach for more then the other? Thanks again!

Besides cutting a Christmas ham, my 120 never gets used.
I feel the longer blade on the 120 works well with heavier wood/ brass handle. The balance point is just behind the guard.
