Are the legends true....

I recently bought a DPX HEST 2.0 and since then have done some research about the knife and subsequently become very interested in the (shall we say... colored) background of the knife maker.

I keep seeing references to a somewhat famous thread on this forum where he totally flips out for whatever reason, resulting in the loss of the DPX manufacturers forum. Is this true?

If so, I would love to get a link to the thread if it hasn't been deleted, if only just to see what not to do here on the forums.

Also, please don't tell me to use the search bar. believe me... I have done this.

Thanks for any help and sorry in advance if I'm putting salt on any old wounds.

Yes it is true. Search "bloody snot bubbles" amongst others. DPX made quite a name for himself here, and he did it to himself.

woah... that's a lot of reading.

I feel a bit like I did when I started reading about mr. "Mick Strider"

I told myself I would never buy a Strider knife, and I haven't. Now I think I might be regretting the purchase of my HEST 2.0...

Now you made me curious about Mick Strider.

I don't want to jack your thread, but do you mind sharing that information?

Yes, it's true. He showed up "in character" most recently here:

It's ironic how the guys throwing around words like "internet tough guy" are usually the only ones talking tough on the thread.
Slightly off topic but here's the finest example of the breed I've seen around these parts. He made my day while he lasted: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/872881-Have-you-ever-been-in-a-real-fight-before

I seriously mean no offense, but all this information is out there to find. I found it...

You would be best served to figure out how to better use the search capabilities of this site and Google.
It will be a much more useful skill than simply started a thread to have things constantly rehashed.

Throw off your "newbie" garbs and join us at the High and Mighty Club. :p

Good luck. :D

There is also a copy of "Elite Team Fighting" out there. The original video disappeared but someone saved it.

Ya, I don't have any specific links, but you don't have to look far. He's another one of those personalities that will never recover. I don't remember the details but it was something along the lines of him claiming to have served in the Army Rangers (he would even sign his posts RLTW [rangers lead the way]) until somebody who knew him called him on it. I believe he may have even been sort of stealing someone's identity... -I don't know, I'm totally not the reliable source on this so don't quote me. But it went so far that eventually it came out that his real name isn't even Mick Strider.
For example, here is the first paragraph of the Wikipedia page for Strider Knives:
Strider Knives, Inc. is a custom and production knifemaking facility headed by Mick Strider and Duane Dwyer based in San Marcos, California. Mick Strider, of Strider Knives, came into disrepute after it was revealed in court and online that he lied about his military past and served time in Federal prison for a car jacking.

But I do hear a lot of good things about his knives....

Seek and you shall find. If you can't, then (seriously, not joking!) now is the time to get down to a library, or pretend to be a student at a local college, and go to THEIR library, and talk to a reference librarian to figure out how to search better. Most reference librarians I've found are bad, so you've got to go through a few of them... but when you find one that knows what they're doing, sit down for a couple hours with them. It will be well, well worth your time (and unless it's finals, those screwy college kids that pay for them aren't using them anyway! And most of them actually DO want to help, so they'll be glad for the company, and everyone wins). Between them, and knowing how to use things like the wayback machine, you will achieve a level of google-fu that really is like the difference between at least a brown belt and being completely untrained. The original Batgirl was a reference librarian to give her bat-skills. There's truth to the comics.

Just so we are clear, Mr. RYP is NOT the knifemaker. The knives that he sells are made for his company by Lion Steel and Ontario who are, by most accounts, fairly reputable companies. Carry on.:D

WOW!! I guess i know one maker I won't be adding to my collection

That's just surreal. Thanks for making me aware of this

Just for the record, my ESEE HEST fixed blade is an awesome knife, love it.

My HEST Folder V1.0 was a joke.

Some knives are good, some, not so good. Its for each of us to decide.

There are several makers/designers I won't buy, just because of assocation.

But I'll never tell.

Yes, that is an important distinction to make. Thanks for the clarification. But he is still, the proud face of the company. And he certainly makes no apologies for his behavior.
