Are the Ravens an Emerson stepchild?

Whats the deal with the Ravens?
They seem to be... I'll say "less than popular".
The Raven I just aquired is one heck of a knife - but not only do I not want to keep it... I have posted it up for sale or trade in several places and have not even had a question about it.
I searched and found many other Ravens that had been posted - all with no replies.

Is the Raven cursed?

I think that the handle material makes them less popular. Most people associate Micarta, G-10 and Carbon Fiber with high speed, low drag custom tactical folders. These same people want to buy a production knife with the same characteristics as the customs. I think this is especially true with Ernie's knives since he offers some production equivalents of his custom knives. Also, I have read mixed reactions to the Raven's handle material and construction with regard to durability. Most are satisfied but there is some negative feedback out there. How accurate these comments are is really anybody's guess since I have not read of ANY Ravens actually failing or coming apart. I almost bought one when they came out but opted for a CQC-7 instead due to the look and feel of the G-10. Call me old fashioned but G-10 is about as far away from Micarta as I want to stray.

Your right - but its funny, because the material this handle is made of is GOOD STUFF.
I see no problem with it at all.
My problem is the chisle grind... I decided I dont need that.

Hello!

I've got a Raven that i never used, like the feeling of it and the shape.
BUT, i can't just get to like the placement on the thumbstud when closed.
I might just be used to the way the studs are placed on my Commanders/CQC-7 but i tend to miss the stud the times i've tried it.

Just my 2 cents

Ernie made two prototypes with thumb holes. One with the EMERSON logo the other with a SPECWAR logo. He submitted these protos to BM when they were still making the CQC-7's. BM did not end up making them but Ernie has expressed an interest in making them as a future production knife. They are the coolest Emersons I own.

Speaking of Benchmade, did ya'll see the new "Mel Pardue designed" Model 722 axis lock? I about fell over when I saw it.

Put an Emerson logo on it and you'd swear it was made by Boker.

The hair on the blade in the bottom picture was from their cleaning cloth and I didn't notice it on the picture until I got back to Florida.

I personally carry a Raven everyday, I LOVE the handle material. It works great if my hands are wet, sweaty, or have oil on them. I honestly have never experienced the problems that I have read about on BF(weak sides, loose lock-up, etc. I own 2 Ravens and they are both perfect. I also own 5 CQC-7's but I like the larger handle on the Raven.

The only thing that kills that for me is the Axis lock. I just dont like it.
I'll take a liner lock any day.

I was looking at the Raven side by side to the CQC7. Very similar blades...
The Raven is much more robust - thicker blade, with a thicker liner lock.
The handle is much more ergo and gives a much better grip.
Yet the CQC7 remains much more popular...
This bogles my mind... I just dont understand this.
