Are the Regular and Classic blades the same?

I have a very basic question. Are the blades on the Regular Sebenza's exactly the same as the blades on the Classic Sebenza's? I've looked at pictures and they look the same. But, I thought I heard that there was a difference. If not, were they ever different?

Along the same lines, exactly what are the different parts between the Regular and Classic Sebenza's, just the handles? Are both sides of the handles different?

Thanks.

Scale slabs and blades are different.

Maybe this pic will help. . . .

Look at the top of the blade. The classic has a clip point blade while the regular is something like a drop point. I handled both before I made my decision on which one I wanted. I liked the handle on the classic much better.

The large Classic vs. Regular blade differences are very apparent and can be seen in photos.

The small Sebenza blades are closer and not readily observable, the Classic is fairly straight on the spine and the Regular has a slight drop or angle on the spine halfway down the blade.

While I like the classic better I recently broke down and picked up a large regular Sebenza, an oldie but a very goodie, with BG-42 made in Jan 21, 2000, very close to my birthdate of Jan 31st! close enough ;)

This one has a blade that is nicely ground, edge is fairly thin and push cuts easily, thanks to JoHnYKwSt he helped out on a deal that made several moves around the country and ended up in my hands today!

Below is a scan of my old collection
Top two are Classic Sebenza's
Next two are Regular Sebenza's
next is a small custom graphic Sebenza
next is a small wood inlay Sebenza, beauty!
next is an Umfaan

There were more, many more that I had but didn't get a shot of them all together, now they are all gone on to new homes :( I was going to wait until Chris Reeve came out with a modified wharncliff bladed folder but that is going to be a bit of a wait, so when I had this chance I took it, missed having one!

Gary,

I *really* like that small box elder wood inlay you show as second from the bottom in that group picture :)

Seriously, never (yeah I know.... a sheltered life) having handled a "classic" 'Benza, why do you find that you prefer it to the newer flavor?

I'm very happy with these two regulars of mine. But are you saying I'm missing something?

Nice shot!
Not missing much I'm sure! But the pointier blade and the guard area is nice, the one knife I'd like to get some day is a small wood inlay classic, but with BG-42 blade as I think they are just a little bit harder heat treated.

a classic blade go into a regular handle and a regular blade into a classic? I know they are different on the tip side but what about where they pivot?

Dannyv,

I've tried that, to make a long story short: The classic is a tad longer and will protrude from the regular scales when folded closed. When I put the regular blade in the classic handle, it kinda worked, but the lock-up was horrible. Each blade really is mated to it's handle....unless you don't mind a little play.
