Are the sidewinder handles cast?

I was looking closely at the slot milled into the handles of my sidewinder, and noticed what I swear to god look like casting marks! Could they be drop forged? Would this make them weaker than if they were milled from solid barstock? I was planning on using the handles in an attempt to repair my 259. Has anybody else noticed this?

Retailers advertise that they are "Milled from solid stock" but I am now curious to know if that's a load of &#!@ , half the time they don't actually know what they are talking about.

Well Hmmmm..

My favorite friend in uniform, my postman, just delivered a few more of these and I gotta say that they're not the same as the first one I got at Bladeshow, not at all. One of 'em is showing its true colors: cast Zamak with a heavy chrome plating!

I'll post a few pictures when I get some film.

Happyhappyjoyjoy, more Zamak!

No, I bought mine well after Atlanta and they're just as Chuck originally described them. There appears to be a second generation surfacing here.

Chris, I'm not sure what Knifezilla has. They may very well still have the original stainless model. I got mine at safe-knife.com, but they've been out of the originals for a couple of weeks now, as far as I know. You'd have to ask Chuck where he found the most recent, zamak model. I think we all assumed there would only be one "model" regardless of where we bought them. Unfortunately, that's not the case.

Let me say this: there is nothing wrong with cast Zamak. It's a fine material. There's probably a lot of cast Zamak in your car. The new ones weigh in within a quarter ounce of the old one. They still feel very solid. Only the one shows its true colors and then only inside the channel on one handle where part of the chrome is chipping away. Again, I'll post pictures as soon as I get more film and get 'em taken.

All the extras on my car are titanium, just like the cool pencil Don is working on.:D

Zamak will do for a short term I think, as someone else here experienced (the demise of his 239)

SS handle should last longer. Isn't that the case?

So are the handles :) or are they:rolleyes: :barf: ?
Hey Don where did you get that really cool smilie face at ?
