Are the tweeners really more than a BK2?

I was hoping to pick up a tweener or two when they came out, based on the hints dropped as to their intended value and price point.

Is it a mistake that the MSRP's I'm seeing are higher than the MSRP for the BK2? Street prices too, though I could attribute that to early high demand and low supply.

Please tell me what I've seen is a mistake, as I really want to be able to afford to use and abuse a few of these.

It actually takes more work to grind a smaller knife. Sounds sick, but its true.

Most are actually the same price as the BK2.

I say the antlered one knows what he is talking about. As far as being affordable to use and abuse IMHO they still are. I have picked up 2 so far the 16 and the 15 and I feel they are well worth the money I paid for them. However that is a matter of opinion. I say pick one up and if you really don't like it you can probably get most of your money back in a trade/sale. Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

which are cheaper to make....the BK2 kydex or the Tweener sheaths? no really...im serious LOL

Okay, I was wrong, the actual MSRPs are $107.49, whereas the BK2's is $112.06.

Still, I was hoping for the street prices to be under $50 shipped.

I understand why it is the way it is, I just feel like I misled myself using the released information, and that makes me feel stupid.

How did you mislead yourself? I'm not being a smartass, I was just curious.

The MSRP has always been the same. I got the rundown from Toooj over dinner once, smaller knives take the same if not more processes to manufacture.

dinner with Toooj would definitely be interesting...id probably have ate very little and asked waaaaaay too many questions

doesn't matter the cost, there's very little on the market that can even approach them for quality, price, and performance. let alone warranty.

Beckers are value knives, but they're not free :D

I think you gotta resist the temptation to compare them to the BK 2 or the bigger beckers, I try to compare them to knives of similiar size from other manufacturers. Then they seem like a friggin bargain.

Rule 4

Don't interrupt Toooj when he's getting his grub on.

Afterwards over a couple of drinks, sure, but not while there's food on the table. :D

what he said

I'm actually comparing them to the new Condor Kephart. I just figured I'd make a Becker-to-Becker comparison in this thread since this is the Becker subforum.

The comparison for me will be to compare the BK-15 Mini-Magnum Camp to another one of my favorites in the same category: the Green River Sheep Skinner.

I have a half dozen other knives in the shorts category but they cost 2-4 times as much and I wouldn't really trust any but one of them to take the abuse I could heap on a 16. For 65ish bucks they are a bargain.

Makes sense.

Smaller and thinner blades require better detail and tighter tolerances.

The smaller knife should cost less to make if they are making equal quantities. Tolerances are most likely comperable and they are milled by machines.

The BK2 is their best selling Becker knife therefore they can sell more of them at lower prices. The more you make of anything the lower the unit cost is. It's that simple.

Same for the sheaths except the BK2 sheath only fits the BK2 but all 3 tweeners share the same sheath. I think they still sell more BK2's than all tweeners combined.
