are ther knivens that can chop wood like a 12 inch hatchet

If I were you, I'd meander over to the Busse section of the forums...

If not, there are a host of knives that are purpose-built choppers. Some of them you might be surprised at just how good their overall performance is. The Crowell-Barker Competition Knife coming out from Browning looks to have good potential.

lots of knives can chop wood. khukuri are the first thing to come to mind. Busse FBM's are the second knife I think of.

For me the Busse FBM chops similar to an Axe, so do my HI's like the 16" AK and my 18 Ganga RAM. I have the Ranger 9 and it does ok, much lighter than the others mentioned and doesnt chop as well but is more versatile imo. My Favorite chopper is my Dog Father LE by scrapyard knives, its light but really chops well and is half the weight of the FBM and comparable to the RD9 in size but with a resperine C handle.

I have several custom choppers that really send the chips flying but are at a much higher price range.

How much are you looking to spend?

up too 250$ but cheper would be nice cause i dont want a safe queen/king:D

You would think if after all these years of people chopping wood, if big knives were more efficient at chopping wood than hatchets and axes, the hardward stores would be full of big knives where we usually find hatchets and axes. :)

if a knife could chop the same as a hatchet why should you pack a hatchet and a knife when you can just pack a knife

There's nothing wrong with a good hatchet.
However, a good khuk can chop very well and is much more versatile.

I would suggest looking at Busse, Scrap Yard, Swamp Rat, as well as Ranger Knives.

I have chopped with my RD 6 quite successfully.

?????

Expect to do this for more than 8 minutes with a wet hands?
Expect to actually get some wood to burn?

Get a Wire Pocket Saw.

For a cheaper alternative a Ka-Bar will chop quite well IMHO. It's not the greatest on large stuff, but it suits my needs.

From BRKT, you could choose the Golok, the Clax, the Rogue, or even the Canadian Camp.

My favorite of those would be the Golok.
