Are there any fake BM51's?

Hey guys! I am talking to a person about buying a Benchmade model 51. He doesn't have the box or pouch, but I don't really mind. I just wanted to make sure it was real before we finalize the deal. I have not heard of any BM51's, but I just wanted to double check with you guys.
Btw, I will be trading a Benchmade 9051+40020 for his BM51.

is it on ebay?? is it local?? if it is then I would want to take it to a benchmade dealer just to make sure it was real before I paid out that much money.
 
Im willing to say Im darn near 100% positive that is the real deal. They do make counterfeits of some BM balis including the shorter mini morpho but I have not seen one of the 51. And the fakes they have of the rest of the Benchmade balis are very easily identified from pictures. The fake BM 31's were made from sub par materials and had painted steel liners instead of the jeweled titanium of the knife in the picture. The closest ive seen to a fake 51 is a boker balisong that is most definitely influenced by the 51 but is also again easily spotted. I do feel that you would be overpaying though. That knife can be had at very close to that price from one of the paid retailers of this forum.

Actually we talked, and I will be trading a Benchmade 9051+40020 for his BM51. Do you think that's a fair deal?
 
I know of another talk form that they are ripping people off in. they tryed to rip me off and it didn't work to good. I would just be careful in dealing with trades.
