Are there any folders that ride "low"?

Do any of you know of any 3" folders that ride low in the pocket rather than extending high above the pocket? I realize that the low ride reduces access but there are times that a more discreet carry would be appropriate. Any help would be appreciated.

One of my favorite knives, and IMHO one of the best production knives available right now is the Al Mar SERE 2000. It rides very low. This is one awesome knife. The blade is a little longer than 3" though.

I'll second that opinion on the SERE.
Only way to have a knife ride lower would without a pocket clip. SERE 2000 gets my vote for knife of the year.

On the other end of the scale would be any of the MOD folders. They all ride way way to high, at least for me.

A relatively cheap low-rider (

) is the Gerber SLG 3.25.
Cost me 55$ at Knife Outlet, and is a very nice made knife (good lock-up, ATS34, G10, easely de-assembelable : torx fasteners, ...)

Not longer in production but easy to get by -is the Spyderco standard. Very low.

The spyderco shabariya is also riding low.

The genesis types were riding very low but they had quality problems and are not recommended - IMHO

The CRKT Kasper Crawford is very low and an excellent knife for the money.

The problem with the SERE is that the clip is shining stainless and not black, as it should be for concealed carry.

It’s hard to change but can be done

don't get me wrong here - the SERE is one hell of a knife - I have one myself.

The EDI Genesis series have real deep carry clips, but the blade is longer than you suggested.

Another low rider, and one of my personal favorites is the Gerber SLG 3.25. Kind of a sleeper, it's a high quality piece with quality materials and a slim profile. The clip is an interesting design, and it does ride almost below the lip of my jeans pocket. However the blade is .25 inches longer than you specified.

The clip on the SERE is probably the best, though...

i would say the lowest riding folder around 3 inches would be the Gerber SLG.
i have one and i love it, the lockup is great and so are the materials.
It rides almost as low as the SERE, but tip down.
they only things i don't like about it is the finish on the G10 scales seem a little slippery and need some getting use too and the pocket clip, althought it's a great design, is a little too weak for my tastes. it doesn't really clip tightly to my pocket.
i haven't had any trouble, but i'm always scared i'm going to lose it. being really low helps it from coming out, but i keep mine in my pocket now, not clipped to it.

Benchmade Ascent series
Gerber AR 3.00
CRKT Point Guard & KFF
Meyerco Bolt Action (if you can find one - try Smoky Mountain)

My vote goes to the Spyderco Standard. I got lucky and found one for $40.00. (C05GP) It has a 2 7/8 inch blade of ATS-55. I'm thinking of buying another before they are no longer available.

Thanks for all the help guys but I have one ignorant questions. Is there a model number associated with the Spyderco Standard?

Another very good, but often overlooked, low rider is the Benchmade Mini-Stryker. It is a very discreet carry option with a decent blade and great handle shape.

Just get the SERE 2000 and send out the shiny clip to get it sandblasted. Heck, I'll do it for you for free if you buy one. This is the best knife of the year hands down and is not terribly expensive either.

All of the above mentioned clip blades can be used for a fairly discreet carry if that is your desire. Another suggestion is 'how' carried. I personally don't find any pocket clip carry too discreet, that tell-tale clip is a giveaway for anyone with half decent observation skills. For me a iwb position at first beltloop just right of center, clipped onto the waistband, angled so clip is about at a 45' going under loop, belt hiding most all of clip. Even shiny clips mostly dissappear this way...though I favor black. I've learned to access easily, quite secure...and away from prying eyes...and clip doesn't bite anything plus easier to access while sitting. May not have that cool clip 'signature' but thats fine with me. I regularly wear my bm710 or even the sifu without anyone the wiser, discreet and comfortable.

Crawford Kasper large or small are low riders, as are the CRKT versions. You can't beat the SERE for low riding!

A little longer than you suggested, but the Microtech LCC rides low and has a short clip too.

What is this existential quandry all about anyway?

I have a big HAWG knife with an integral clip that rides really low and is surprisingly comfortable for such a big knife. Mike Franklin makes smaller knives as well.
