or are there any that they don't export?

my sister is schooling in paris right now and wanted to send everybody gifts. I don't see much point in asking for an opinel since i can get one here.

Hm... well, there are all sorts of different Laguiole manufacturers. Obviously, the Forge de Laguiole knives are kind of expensive, but there might be cheaper brands out there. She should stop by Armes Bastille at 61, rue de Lyon. It's just down the street from the Bastille métro stop (and a few blocks away from the awesome Viaduc des Arts.) Alternately, there is a store called Dune in one of the shopping areas on the Champs-Élysées. It is kind of silly, though, selling all sorts of crazy stuff (supressors, even!) Her best bet is Armes Bastille; I knew it was a decent knife shop when I saw them selling sebenzas.

Paris me manque...

You have the Nontron knives too...Douk Douk are great too...Laguiole from "Forge de Laguiole" are splendide...
Or maybe, a custom from Fred Perrin can be find in Armes Bastille (but it's more pricey...)... :D

Kindall's in the Avenue de l'Operà has a good knife selection,
from CRKs and Randalls via medium-priced American folders to all kind of French and kitchen stuff, all sizes of Opinels and Laguioles as well...
Laguiole is THE French classic to me, certainly a fine thing, and yes, while never quite as cheap as an Opinel, they come in different quality and price ranges...
best, t.
