I am from Southern Illinois, I am starting to get more and more interested in the art of knife making. I have made a couple of small blades from saw blades using the stock removal method but i am interested in possibly starting to learn to forge in the future, just wondering if there are any makers in the area.

thanks
Chris

Chris, you need to refine your search a little bit, buddy.
People in Chicago think that anything "south of I-80" is Southern Illinois!
Where do you live?

Karl - you are pretty close in that. from what I've seen chicago proper goes with everything south of Joilet.
Suburbs go with anything south of I-80.
Central illinois seems to think anything south of I-64
further south and they draw the line at Route 13

I'm currently in Springfield, And did three years in Carbondale, and Grew up In a town called Princeton(literally just south of I-80, so I guess I've always lived in "southern" Illinois)

Chris, if you have a town name, it might be easier to find a nearby blademaker.

sorry for the confusion, I live in Benton Illinois, about 20 miles southe of I-64 (Rend Lake area)

ChrisC73,

If Evansville, Indiana isn't to far of a drive for you. I am just a hobby maker but I can help you get started. Also check out the local blacksmiths group. I am sure if you contact them they will be more than helpful.

Let me know if I can help.
