Are there any reliable, durable and cheap switchblades?

I'm huge into Balisongs myself, but I'm open to all knives. I never see my dad since he's states away, but he has always had a fascination with switchblades (though he never had one himself). I'm thinking about buying him one ($35 or under) for father's day. I know that may sound cheap, but I'm a college student.

Knifezilla has a lot of offerings, but I don't know which ones are nice and durable. Being around balisongs all these years has made me mistrust spring-loaded knives. Are there many that ARE nice and durable (he's probably not going to cut much with it, but knowing him he'll be "flick" open, "flick" closing all day long.

He'd prefer an out-the-front, but the ones that come out the side are ok(as long as the side ones are stiletto type).

Thanks, guys!

You might have better luck in the Automatic knife forum, they are pretty specialized there.

I am pretty sure that there are no reliable autos in that price range. You dont want to get a poorly made auto, much more potential for causing injury when it fails than any other type of knife.

What you may be able to find is an assisted opener for that much...and they can be just as fun for flickin'

I like the blink for 30$

Sorry I coundt really find anything like a classic stilleto, but trust me you dont want a cheaply made auto....especailly as a gift.
......

Also, is that a clan tag in your handle...you a gamer?

the cheapest decent autos i have seen are GT's, ya can often find them for sale in the forums for around $100, any cheaper than that usually in my experience isnt any good, as far as real autos not assisteds. and GT's are really well made if funky looking for the $$, .

I think about the cheapest auto you can get from a reliable company would be the Smith & Wesson SW-50 Extreme Ops knives. Not the greatest steel in the world (about the worst actually, but still better than cheap chinese crap), but only $45 from www.1sks.com . I think S&W knives have a lifetime warranty (I think).

IMO, quality doesn't really start until around $110 for a Microtech Mini-SOCOM Elite. For $120-130 the choices really open up for Protechs and Benchmades.
