Are there any traditionals with super steels?

I'm a wannabe steel nut and I've tried some of the more recent steel offerings like(XHP, 20CP,, M4, M390, etc.) and I kinda like them. I also have recently been looking at traditionals. Are there any offerings in these kinds of steels?

Not really. Maybe in a custom. But traditional patterned knives are most often accompanied with traditional steel offerings such as 1095, D2, 440, etc.

I have a custom in CPM-154 (avatar). Production wise, I've seen 154CM and ATS-34 but not much else. There were some Northwoods in S60V but they are hard to find.

I see. I think I'm getting it a bit now. Thanks. I bet that I can put a good edge on one in 1095. :D

Who makes 'em in 1095?

Some of the Queen/Dan Burke collaborations have BG-42 blades. Like my Rancher -

KSF did a run of Nothwoods Scagel Gladiators with S60V. Looks like they are sold out for the time being. Not sure if they will get more.

Schatt and Morgan File & Wire series 5 use ATS-34. Case sometimes uses different steels, their Slim Lock uses BG-42, but it isn't a traditional pattern per se.
Canal Street uses something they call Cr 14-4Mo, no idea what it's equivalent to but my Half Moon Trapper came with a popping sharp edge on it.

I'm looking forward to my GEC Bullnose in O1 tool steel. Other than D2 that some makers like Queen use, I believe you'll find the super steels mostly in customs.

I got on a bit of a steel kick with Spydercos, but I've been just as happy using my knives with plain old 420HC, Case's CV and 1095 carbon. They're a heck of a lot easier to sharpen too!

14-4 CrMo is an alloy made by Latrobe Steel. The composition matches those of ATS-34 and 154CM.

I don't think I have seen any traditional patterns with what we consider a super steel by today's standards. I could have missed something.

Sombody has a SAK with wooden scales in ZDP-189. I plan on getting one of these myself some day.

Also, if you like lock backs check out the japanese makers like Moki and Seizo Imai, and even Kershaw. They produce some knives in ATS-34 and VG-10 with near perfect construction.

I looked at it and its interesting with two zdp189 blades. Do you know the maker and the RC hardness of the two blades? Normally I see the steel in the high 60's and sometimes laminated. Any clue for this one?

Thanks.

Sorry, no clue on any of the specifications not listed there. If you really want to know send an email to them, really friendly guys.
