Are there many CRK/Strider owners here?

I have been looking at Strider, particularly at a small folder, and I wanted to get some opinions. I am posting here because I am looking for opinions from people who own CR Knives (as well Strider).

Strider Folders, Small vs Large? Ease of use? Which do you prefer?

Thanks!

I have a thing for SnG's. Own one tanto and one spearpoint. I recently traded off an SmF as I found it too big.

I like my Striders but I prefers my Sebenzas. The fit on my SnG's leaves little to be desired where as my Sebenzas are as near perfection as you can get.

I own and use both CRK and Strider knives (folders and fixed blades). I find both brands to be of very high quality. As far as the folders go, I think the CRKs are more "refined" and exhibit better overall fit and finish. I have more confidence, however, in the strength of the Striders.

I have a Strider PT, 2 small sebs & and two Mnandis.
The fit & finish of the Strider is good. My only complaint is the pocket clip allows the knife to stick up out of the pocket more then I would like.

If I was forced to make a choice I would choose CRK.

I had an SMF and it went back after a week due to lock problems. It came back and had the same problems within another week. I will never buy another Strider product again. My Sebenza has had no problems and I love it! CRK is (in my opinion) the only company that knows how to build a framelock.

I've used a GB over the last week on a passaround on britishblades. I didn't like it mostly for the size but the quality wasn't the same as CRK (or WH). The grinds weren't even and there was a very sharp corner on the spine of the blade which stuck out when folded (at the top of the blade, where it didn't need to be like that to engage the locking mechanism)
The PT knive that I've handled seemed much better though.

For me, the knife purchase depends on cutting chores and how concealed the knife is (when carrying).

I had an AR, GB and currently own a PT. I have also owned numerous Sebbies (large and small) and Mnandi's.

As mentioned already, the fit and finish on the CRK products smoked my AR and GB, but the PT ranks somewhat close to CRK fit and finish. The AR and GB were cutting monsters and are meant, IMO, for heavy cutting chores. For a small knife, the PT performs better than what I thought it would. I believe that the cutting ability of the three Strider knives has everything to do with the blade grind. The AR and GB had two disadvantages. First, they are BIG knives and make concealed carry hard. Second, they lacked the ability of easy take down for maintenance (pivot required a special tool). My AR and GB were purchased specifically for heavy cutting chores and they fit the bill to a tee ! The PT, like the small Sebbie, is too small for my needs. I've handled quite a few SnG's and SMF's and walked away without one.

There is nothing not to like in a CRK product ! Superb cutters, easy to carry, easy to maintain, not task specific (all around folder), etc., etc., etc. . . . Customer service ? Pfffff. . . .the number of awards that they've received, my experiences with them, and what others say. . . . .speaks volumes !

I can't imagine not having CRK folders ! I've lived without a Strider knife and didn't experience any withdrawal symptoms. :D YMMV.

I would agree with what everyone else has said. I owned a PT for a short time. I liked it but the fit and finish did not even come close to any of my CRK's. I also did not like the fact I could not disassemble the knife without a specific tool. It was a good knife but I didnt feel it was on the same level as a small Sebenza IMHO.

I have owned several Striders, and they get traded off or sold. I very much prefer my CRK knives, as they are perfection.

i have both and edc both. i can honestly say that crk engineering is spot on, but my smf is what rides in pocket a lot of the time when i'm on patrol. is one better than the other...i guess it depends on what you want. my crk's are really good for general work and all around cutting. i use my striders for things you should not do...yes, i have used one to pry open a door, they have better ergonomics in "fighting" techniques and a spanner wrench isn't really all special of a tool to take care of maintenance. gear is gear...if you take care of it, it will take care of you.

i like big folders and am anxiously waiting for the new crk/harsey folder i've heard about.

One compromise you could make is to look for one of the Baca customized Strider PT's. Still no sebs, but much more civilized.

Here's mine.

I like both! That being said though, the Sebenza has been in my pocket nearly everyday for close to 10 years. I liked it enough to have CRK engrave my full name on it, so that it will likely never be traded or sold.

Sebenzas are just easy to carry and use. The blade profile is great for nearly any cutting task. I also have found no issues with blade lock-up or play.

My Strider SNG is also an excellent knife and no doubt built for toughness, but it is thicker, rides higher out of the pocket and is much more course (on the G10) than the bead blasted handles of the CRK. If I were going camping, hunting or into a danger/combat zone, I'd bring the Strider. For just about everything else, the Sebenza is the better choice for me (although I would also bring it wherever the SNG would go).

Can't really go wrong with either, just a matter of personal choice and what matches your usage.

I love both companies.

Striders are overbuilt monsters and i love them for it. Chri Puts out the finest folding knife i have ever owned. Strider the finest folding pry bars.

Throw in Busse and emerson. And the circle of awesomeness is complete.

Cool! Do you have any pictures of it? How much did it cost?

Thanks to all for the responses. Seems that the feelings are mixed for Striders. I just found out a dealer 30 miles away has a small selection in stock, I will check them out.

Handle any Strider before you part with $$ the number of tales of woe are hard to calcualte for Strider knives and it seems the more complex the design the higher the likelyhood of FUBARness. Some people are easier to please than others but unless you have a percieved need to batton one through an aircraft carrier and dont mind about sloppy grinds, sloppy blades and comments like 'lick my sack' when you enquire about something to the CS department, then stick with a company that has a near perfect customer satisfaction ranking.

hay,
I have large Sebenza and SMF,
and I have found Sebenza better EDC knife,
since SMF in larger and heavy,
and I didn`t handeled any smaller striders,
so I don`t know about them.
But what I like in Smf is secure handle,
it is much comfortable to me that Sebenza,
that is one of reasons whay Smf is larger knife,
and blade lenght is very simmilar to sebenza.
I carry sebenza alltimes,
but I do carry SMF also in pouch on my duty belt when I`m on work.
And one more thing about SMF,
you can use handle as weapon also,
when you placed it in hand,
you have a blade on one end,
and end on handle on other,
so if I would chose better weapon or defense knife,
I think that I would chose SMF.
