Sorry if this has been asked before ( I've tried searches here and the web), but I can't seem to get a straight answer....

Are there SAK models that are not sold in the US? Why is that?

I finally bought a SAK Mountaineer Lite on Ebay (from Switzerland), but couldn't find it at any US store online or brick/mortar.

I wasn't sure if this was a discontinued model, but every email I sent to retailers came back as unavailable. When I asked why, I never got an answer except to email SAK. SAK has not replied as of yet (2 weeks ago).

Thanks, Rob

The European military issue models. There are some civilian models that I think are sold only in certain countries. On the German SAK forum there's a thread "Auflistung seltener Victorinox-Modelle" in which mainly European people show rare SAKs. Some are only found in or around Switzerland, but this mainly has to do with the scales.

BTW, the Victorinox Mountaineer Lite is still sold here in the Netherlands.

By way of example , special SAK's have been made for outfits as diverse as the Swiss railways , and various Police organizations.

I believe this is a Europe only model. It's a Wenger Metal 50 and I got it in Lausanne Switzerland about three years ago. There is a similar metal handled one in the States called the Steel Traveler but it doesn't have the angles around the edge of the scales and the shield is painted on.

Thanks guys. I'll assume that the ML is at least a non-US available version. For me it has every tool that I want in a manageable size. I don't really need the light, but everything else is spot on.

I tried to find a Wenger Ranger with the cork-screw here in the USA, I couldn't: all I could find was the back phillips.

the phillips is too short and not functional for me in back (I like inline, longer) and I use the corkscrew for so many other things beside wine.

but in Europe np getting it with the corkscrew.

I'm not totally sure, but I went on a family vacation to Europe, and while I was in Lucerne Switzerland, I picked up a Victorinox SwissChamp with white scales. I heard from someone that the factory white scales are only available if you buy within Switzerland, black for Europe, and red for distribution worldwide. I'm not sure how much truth there is to that, but beside from the multicolored Classic SAK sold everywhere, I've never seen another white SAK being sold in my area. To be honest, the only people I even see with white SAKs are me, my family, and the friends I got the white Classic for.

Also, when I checked out the SAKs they had at the counter, they seemed to pretty much have every model that is also being sold here, barring maybe a couple that I've never seen before, but I don't remember their names.

My wife has a "classic SD" in white- her parents brought along from a Swiss trip - and I have a white scaled 84mm model like a cadet but with corkscrew and awl on the backsprings. I think it was a gunshow special from a TSA auction.
Peace
